I'm looking to capture some Halo2 games from my Xbox (via my VCR or direct) to my PC for montages.

It looks like the cheapest way to do it is a USB device that'll take the RCA or S-Video in and convert it.

I want to spend less than $75 and don't want to buy a card that sucks up my processing.

Any help will be appreciated.

Good luck getting dscaler not to throw a code and lock up if you want to try any post processing to make up for the shitty picture.

Makes one hell of a nice desk leveling prop, i must say.

okay, so it sounds like getting a cheaper video capture card is better than the usb devices

any other suggestions besides the Leadtek WinFast TV 2000 XP Deluxe?

I'm looking online and I see "TV Tuner" cards and very little video capture cards. Are they mutually exclusive? I didn't think they were, but I want to be sure.

if you're going vcr to pc, then the card noen suggested will work. its not like you're looking for top quality. just dont play the game on your pc, for it will not be able to keep up and appear laggy (esp when running recaling). recording off a vcr will be ok though.

I've got a splitter that splits on S-video input into one s-video output and one composite (RCA) output. I've heard that will allow me to play on the vcr (tv) and record on the pc.

So really, offer a BETTER suggestion in the sub 100 dollar range.

If he uses the svideo input, and mpeg-2 at like 5mb/s to start, wouldn't that provide him 480i resolution?

Yes but i never had good luck getting a signal scaled decently. Its the lack of resolutions fault probably not so much the card.

Yea, watching the card "live" pretty much sucks donkey dick for anything over 640*480, but I always had really good results from capture.

Okay, so I just purchased a Dazzle Digital Video Creator 90 usb device from Best Buy, installed it, plugged my Xbox into it and tried playing and, just what you said, it froze up twice and I had to reboot my computer. I'll be taking the CrapDazzle back in a few minutes and I'm going to get an ATI TV WONDER PRO PCI Tuner Card (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6742297&type=product&id=1091099665361).

The problem is that I want to get something that I can return if it doesn't work, and I haven't had too much luck with things that I buy over the internet.

You are going to have the same problems with the ATI card too. Their drivers suck a donk (except the HD Wonder supposedly, which isn't what you need or in your budget).

Go to newegg.com, buy the Leadtek card. They have the best customer service you can find and a good return policy.
