So I've got this awesome deal available to me for a 2000 Range Rover SE (the one with the 4.0L V-8) with 73,000 miles. What are some things I need to look for? I've been googling stuff on it, but I'm really looking for people that drive them (haha, college students driving range rovers...) or know people that drive them that could give some feedback on the negatives associated with this vehicle. What are the common things that go out on this vehicle?

My only main concern is that it has been sitting for about 6 months. My wife went and looked at it today and the battery was dead, but it was jumped and fired right up. What damage could happen over the course of 6 months with no driving? What might need replacing to get it in good working order? Any feedback would be great!

Also, who can work on Range Rovers? Only the stealership or other shops?

has anyone worked on them? Can regular maintenance items be easily done at home like an oil change, plugs and wires, etc.?

change all the fluids
flush the fuel system
new battery
new filters

http://www.discoweb.org/ This place is pretty cool. Deff take it to Rover clubhouse for an inspection before you purchase. It think it will cost around $130. worth every bit of it. A sick rover will drain your ass. good luck and how bout some pics

we took it for a test drive today. the engine runs really smooth for having sit for 6 months. Gas tank is near empty already, so new gas might help. Needs an oil change and a few new gaskets and it will be good to go. We had a mechanic check it out and he said minus the gaskets and new rear brake pads, it's in great shape. i will definately give the rover clubhouse a call to bring it by. I'll post some pictures once we get it home! thanks for the info!

Remember that Rover engines are designed for premium fuel, 90+ octane. I put some 87 in mine once, and it sputtered and surged a little. Just remember thats gonna bump up your fuel costs a bit. Other than that, its a great ride.

Range Rovers run fine on 87 octane - at least mine does.
