today, it was brought home yet again that mexicans are everywhere in our country, using our resources, our social services, our school, with absolutely no regard for our laws. the accident on I-40 this morning was caused by a hispanic male (name still unknown because he had several IDs on him) drunk driving without a license. he KILLED one driver in a head-on collision, and seriously injured two others, causing I40 west to be completely closed down for ~ 4 hours. This is just a taste of what mexicans have brought to our country.

nationwide, since 2006:
robberies are up 6%, crime overall is up 1.6%

amnesty bill proposes:
- Illegal aliens not required to pay back taxes
- Path to citizenship for up to 20 million illegal aliens
- College tuition subsidy for illegal aliens

Bank of America has launched a program to offer credit cards to illegal aliens. Offers service to send money to Mexico quickly and easily.

Everywhere i go, i see mexicans. the grocery store, the bank, the mall, the gas station - we are being over-run with illegals who have no respect for our country - they are simply here to earn money, and do whatever they hell they want. they have no desire to partake in "the american dream". true, 1st generation illegals are hardworkers, but 2nd generation illegals are draining our resources, and not giving back. they're gang banging, crowding our schools, flooding our hospitals, and stealing our tax dollars!

write your senator and fight this invasion! illegals should not be granted amnesty - they can apply for a visa and wait. there is no reason why we can't enforce the laws we already have in place to rectify this situation.

Not that I particularly care for the current imigration situation but what part of driving drunk, driving without a valid license a killing other people in care accidents is unique to being a mexican or an illegal imigrant. If I recall correctly, a few years ago, a drunk state student killed 7 people in a driving accident.

you're all missing the point.... those of us who deserve to be here are paying taxes, our parents are paying taxes, and we're not causing an undue burden on our fellow countrymen. there is a mutual underlying respect among (most) americans. we come from a strong, proud heritage, and are proud to be in a free country, pursuing our happinesses.

there is A WAY for immigrants to come to america, and that path is being intentionally avoided, and if this immigration bill passes, illegal immigrants will be rewarded/pardoned for breaking our laws. this is not right. america is rolling over on its back saying ... "well, there's just too many of them. there's nothing we can do."

Mexicans in America drink and drive at a much higher rate than the rest of the population. Cultural factors are definitely at play in that regard.

^seems to me if its a cultural thing then illegal or not they still drink and drive more than any other race. So that fact is not at all related to their immigration status. Its more related to the hardships of poverty and the fact that they are so far away from home. Maybe if we didn't live inside a giant fort knox and the rest of their families were able to immigrate here, we wouldn't have such problems.

and in that case, we'd only be arguing about dumb college age students and rednecks.

even if it is, who forced them to experience poverty so far away from home? was mexico or whatever country of origin overcrowded? or better yet, does everyone who is homesick and/or poor get drunk and drive around?

^no...my point is mexican or not, if they are so far from home...poor...going through hard times....they're in the same boat as any other race or culture. "far from home" could be bronx vs LA....doesn't just mean another country. Being mexican has nothing to do with drinking and driving. I'm sure Emily's friend can attest to that.

so legal residents deserve to be able to drink and drive? is that part of our respect for each other?

So you're mad that they don't pay taxes and drain our resources, but you're against a bill that would make them pay taxes.

You're mad that they aren't going through legal channels, yet you're against a big that would make it easier for them to follow the law (while making it more difficult to break the law).

I'm starting to question your motives, here.

Yes, but I should also mention that 21-year-old college students drink and drive at a much higher rate than the rest of the population. It is also part of their culture.

The only problem I have with amnesty and whatnot is that it's simply not fair. Everybody else in this country has to pay if they get convicted of a crime. Why not these people? Most folks think smoking weed isn't "bad," but people who get caught doing that often have to do community service. Community service for those here illegally sounds perfect. Say, 200 hours each.

and Chaoticbliss, unless you are Native American, your family came here in search of a better life at some point...why is that perfectly OK?

I honestly don't understand the argument of "hey we were all illegal immigrants at one point in time" If you compare the United States during the big immigration booms and now, its a very different scenario. We have problems with overcrowding in areas, providing a proper education to kids, to high of a labor pool in certain areas, we have systems set up that illegal immigrants can abuse, etc. We're not trying to project our manifest destiny any more, we're not trying to expand, we're trying to make sure our citizens get the best lives that they can, and unfortunately, illegal immigrants can hamper that.

If someone is being religiously persecuted, escaping war, then sure send them over and let them follow the proper procedures. I have no problem with immigration as long as its legal.

Maybe that analogy would work if heroin was legal to use but just difficult to get a permit to do so and the law being put forth was an attempt to make getting a permit easier.

^^^ Yeah, using THIS country of all countries as an example of a people "getting the prize first then locking the door" is absolutely fucking ridiculous.

Sorry, that doesn't work. The conservative's answer is to monitor who is here and who isn't. If we had done that, then someone wouldn't have died yesterday.

^ meh.. maybe. not the conservatives of the bush administration, though.

^^yeah... you'll find that the people most fired up about illegal immigration are legal immigrants who went through enormous cost and, in a lot of cases, years of waiting to emigrate to the U.S.
