For my own admission, I used to say my grandfather was shot during an historic air battle over Berlin. later i found out it was an historic air battle over some tiny hamlet on the way to some other German industrial city. was my "gaffe" a misunderstanding of the facts? sure.

I doubt that anyone in Washington cared about the difference between Sunni and Shia before 3 years ago. McCain has been to Iraq 9 times and I'm sure that he's become familiar with the issue, but it's still relatively new information and he's not beyond misspeaking.

As far as Obama and Auschwitz, I really don't care and am having a hard time understanding why the media has latched on to it so hard.

I keep mentioning his Selma speech where he embellishes abit to an audience who I guess he didnt think it would matter. I think he very well could have known what his uncle did, but tried to make more of an impact with Auschwitz bc its more known. Maybe. THe line of selma BS is the foundation for my opinion.
