Game play for j00

All the info you could dream about.

Quote :
".........Witches (1 per campaign, only appears on difficulties above normal)
These are computer controlled Boss-Infected, and aren't available to choose for an Infected player. That is because these are potentially the most dangerous enemies in the game, and only appear once in a campaign.
A Witch spends her time writhing on the floor in agony. She won't even take any notice of you unless you do something silly, like walk too close to her, shoot near her, shoot her, or shine the flashlight at her. This lets you pass by her if you're quiet, which is the safer option.
If you do accidentally annoy her, or decide to risk attacking her, she'll attack you. She is fast, she is strong, she kills with each hit. Try to avoid her if you can."

Quote :
"Tanks (1 allowed at any single moment in time, except for the final stand)
The biggest Boss Infected, this guys name is self explanatory. This bloke is a rock, a gigantic lump of muscle and sinew, insanely strong and fast enough to run any survivor down, but no stealthy options available to him at all. The footsteps of this mother can be heard from miles away, so don't expect to catch anyone by surprise.
Because this bloke is so powerful, it isn't possible to choose to be him when playing as Infected. Instead, a random player will be informed that he can be respawned as a Tank at the Director's discretion. A Tank's role is pure and simple, destroy with no thought of self-preservation and with one object in mind, the death of the Survivors. Locked doors and even certain parts of walls will not stop your rampant destruction, so Survivors can't simply lock themselves in a room and wait you out.
To stop Tank players camping for surprise attacks there's a frustration meter that fills when you're out of sight of the Survivors. When this fills, you lose all control of the Tank.
Nevertheless, this bloke can wipe out the Survivors if they aren't skilled and use teamplay. "

The Smoker

The Boomer

I am curious about the co-op

I can see this being extremely fun game to play on console, and PC.

I want to know about the PC interface to get a full team of survivors.

Can you imagine playing a 1 hour scenario with 3 other people? Not just some bs tf2 round, but an actual mini campagn.

The environments in those screencaps look really dated.

i doubt the environments will be anything special appearance wise. What matters is the layout and the number of zombies.

Exactly.

This isnt crysis where everything is crazy bright.

The gameplay is what has everyone going "I want that"

and by everyone, I mean you.

They just posted more gameplay videos on IGN (for xbox)

Graphics aren't that great, but the gameplay looks to be intense. I'll probably try and pick it up

It's on the Source engine so if you are able to run any of the games in Orange Box, you'll probably be fine with this.

btw has anyone played the "Zombie Panic" HL2 mod? I had never heard of it until I saw that it was available for install under the "My Games" part of Steam. It looks like a very primitive version of Left 4 Dead... you have a team of zombies (only one type of zombie) and a group of survivors. Each survivor starts out with a pistol and only 7 shots (which go really quickly) and a random melee weapon (really random things like ladles or computer keyboards). All the survivors have to find each other and exchange ammo/health packs/etc. while the zombies seek them out. It's not bad, a good precursor to Left 4 Dead.

Regardless, when this comes out we should get a TWW group going for some co-op play.

So, tally:

Xbox or PC?

My PC is getting old, not worth it to me to upgrade for gaming only, so from now on most games will be console purchases.

Xbox here.

And I'd love to get some MP going when it drops. It'll probably take me a few weeks to get it after release, but then I'll be on.

whoops, just saw this. Sounds good.

I'm guessing PC can't play with Xbox?

^ plus fallout/fable if you're into either of those

and i'm picking up mk vs dc just because i want to, lol

but yeah, i wish they would space this out over the year instead of a massive orgy near xmas (but of course, it makes sense $$$ wise for these companies)

so is there actually going to be support for larger online scenarios? i may just have not read online, but it seems like this is the answer to my wanting more zombies from dead rising...except more awesome and less cartoony. looks like with this and fallout 3 i may not have a whole lot of extra time now.

^ Open the console and type "openserverbrowser". That will give you the usual server browser like you typically see in a valve game and you won't have to mess with the console type matchmaking.

I was never big on zombie games like resident evil, but this is genuinely fun, and mainly for the coop aspect. Last night myself and all three of my roommates played the hell out of the demo, and it was pretty awesome.

I love how each area can be considerably different each time you play through it due to the dynamic nature of the enemies and AI control

e.g. one time in the second level we got 'zerg-rushed' bad by a huge zombie horde with boomers and most of us ended up getting poisoned by the bile and we got overwhelmed, but playing the level again, that same area was dead quiet and nearly deserted and it made for a really creepy tense atmosphere because we all were on edge expecting to get hammered again, but it happened differently later on that go

the team AI can be pretty bad sometimes... wasting medpacks and not saving me from the smokers. that being said, i easily cleared the 2 levels with 3 bots on advanced, might try expert tonight. so far i havent cleared it on expert with anyone, only gotten to that last room but there was a tank that destroyed us.

Someone somehow created this super nightmare mode on a server, It was fucking insane. Each encounter had like 5 of each boss, multiple witches and tanks.. we never made it through it.

I ran into a server similar to that.

Boomers and hunters were spawning on top of us. In the first room of the first level.

It was really gay. maybe your server handled it better.

You can just enable cheats on your server and spawn zombies and bosses with command lines.

I've cleared expert with bots, but it got pretty rough and close at some points, like single handedly breaking rushes and dealing with witches dropped right in your way

Yea, played on expert for the first time. We got to the last room with all of us under 15% health, 2 of us with no primary ammo no health packs, no bombs, no nothing. And a tank and a witch are right at the entrance to the last room of the second level. Needless to say we got destroyed.

But expert is really fun if you got people that are trying and communicating.

Would be awesome for a LAN game.

I don't own any Valve games, so that $100 deal looks nice, except my computer can't handle Left 4 dead. My laptop is 4 years old.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't valve have a deal like this yearly? I may get it then, if I get a new computer.
