Anyone heard any information of possible tour dates in the US for Muse? I know they're playing with U2 in a few locations and that so far only MSG in NYC is confirmed for September 24th but I'm curious about other dates.

I desparately want to see them live and would travel anywhere east of the Mississippi but really don't want to shell out $Texas to see them open for U2. In other words I'm hopeful they'd be headlining somewhere in the US without U2.

I think my dad saw them play about 30 years ago, back when they were called Queen.

I kid, I kid.

But really. Muse is Queen for a new generation.

Saw them in Raleigh at Disco Rodeo back in '05, one of the best shows I've been to. This is a band worth traveling to see.

The audience drove me nuts. A bunch of high schoolers and college freshmen and were too "scene" to act like they cared.

^My roommate went to that, back when I didn't know how awesome Muse was or I'd have gone with him. I'll definitely keep this in mind.

if anyone hears anything update the thread, I'd definitely make a trip to see them live

well hell, I just found this on their wikipedia page:

Quote :
"Tampa is also confirmed as Muse are special guests to U2 for the October 9th concert at Raymond James Stadium, the only concert date in Florida for the U2 360º Tour"

and here's some other good news about their new album:

Quote :
"2009 NME Awards on 25 February, Bellamy revealed that the album was approximately half completed and should be released, in conjunction with a tour, at the end of summer 2009."

^I read somewhere that Matt said that there is a song on it that he considers the hardest song he's ever written. I'm intrigued...

I saw them back in '05 at the Disco Rodeo too. It is most definitely one of the best concerts of ever been to. I would love to see them again, but I don't know how I feel about them not headlining.

well Radiohead will never do Bends era style music again so I'm glad someone will

its kinda like I'm glad the Silversun Pickups came around for an early Smashing Pumpkins sound

I really enjoy the Silversun Pickups, but I don't think they sound half as much like early Smashing Pumpkins as I hear people say. They certainly have specific passages and riffs with that fuzz driven guitar that screams SP, but as a whole I don't see it.

yea I love that song and I can certainly see the comparison. I actually just started really getting into them not that long ago (because someone told me I would love them since im obsessed with early SP )

I really don't want to pay out the ass to see Muse basically "opening" for U2. U2's great and I love their earlier stuff but I have no interest and seeing them in concert.

^^^ also, if you are really into the kinda gritty, alternative, shoegaze stuff I REALLY dig Amusement Parks on Fire (http://www.myspace.com/amusementparksonfire) an the Fleeting Joys are ok too (http://www.myspace.com/fleetingjoys). You may already listen to one or both of them but if not I highly recommend you checking them out if you enjoy early SP and silversun pickups.

Especially Amusement Parks on Fire. It has much more of a true shoegaze production than the Silversun Pickups imo. Thats my main complaint probably with SS...for the sound they have going for them I feel that their recordings are too clean and produced. This kinda stuff needs that raw feeling with room to breathe. "In Flight" is a good track to start with on their myspace imo. That song destroys.

ugh. i'd really rather not go to a u2 concert, esp knowing the insane crowd that will be fighting for tickets. that's a deal breaker unfortunately.

I really loved their first two albums; they have a great sense for melody. However, their last 2 albums just got kinda repetitive for me.

Im looking forward to it, but I just hope they took a step towards varying their sound more on this album. I love their early stuff but feel like they have more or less rehashed the same sound with minor changes on every album.

^I feel like their first two albums have a pretty good sound all around. Absolution and Black Holes and Revelations have some absolutely amazing songs (most of my favorites) but I feel like a few of the other songs on each album just fall flat and aren't that good.

here's the first song from the album. Its called "United State of Eurasia"

definitely has some Queen "bohemian rhapsody" influences.

Might need to grow on me a little

and, Uprising came out yesterday, it is up on the muse website. Much better than United States of Eurasia, but still not the best thing I've ever heard from them.
