Right from my apartment and the police haven't been very helpful. I'm not sure if it was stolen by hot wire or by tow truck but when I decided to leave today and couldn't figure out where I parked I realized it had been stolen. Me and my friend have called so many lots and companies looking for it but some don't answer on sunday and it could be anywhere. I was legally parked at my apartment so even if it was a tow company I can still press charges for grand theft auto right. This is unreal because even if a misunderstanding took place, i heard from a neighbor that the complex isn't even towing in the summer but seriously who steals a car these days? Isnt crime pretty nice around campus?

have you even fucking called the tow company for the apt place you parked at? i've had my car towed twice from a complex that i had a parking permit clearly displayed for..

if you could do that i think every fucking tow truck driver in the world would be in prison. or maybe they wouldn't be such pieces of shit

Well....
One time, I and my roommates had verbal permission to park in some unused [assigned] spaced because they were vacant and our assigned spaces were 100ft further away. We parked there with no problem for MONTHS. One night, ALL of our cars were towed, and the landlords claimed to have never given permission to park there. (They did.) We never got our money back, because 4 broke students vs a huge property management company over an admittedly verbal agreement didn't seem like a good bet.

The thing about towing is like we told the police. No clue what company it would have been. If a cellphone is dead in the car shouldnt tmobile be able to find it?

By law, if your complex uses a towing company, their information must be clearly posted on a sign at the entrance to the complex. That may be a good place to start.

are you mildly retarded? IT'S DEAD. IF IT'S DEAD IT CAN'T TRANSMIT OR RECEIVE ANYTHING. MEANING NO, THEY CAN NOT FIND IT

and c. there's a sign somewhere in the apt complex that says who the towing company is. also anyone in the office should know.. start calling and asking people until you figure it out

Why would you even think that? That makes no sense at all.

Where and when was your car stolen from? A friend of mine had her car stolen from in front of her apartment early Friday morning. They found it that night around 3am and had her come get it after they fingerprinted it. Car was filthy and smelled like ass. We're thinking they smoked crack in it. Apparently somehow they had a key, windows were rolled down and there was no damage to any locks or ignition.

1. car theft is not out of style.
2. probably got towed. do you have a parking pass for your lot? is your plate/inspection up-to-date?
3. It's a Mitsubishi, not exactly a high class/high value vehicle.
4. if the phone is dead, how could it send a signal? besides many cell phone providers don't even use the tracking feature; it's a phone manufacturer feature and they don't provide tracking services.
5. that's a cute picture. minus the reptile.

No, not really. It's not that bad because, for the most part, people around here don't drive very flashy cars, know to keep valuable items (or, for that matter, any items) out of their car, and tend not to just wander around at night by themselves. There's still plenty of armed robberies, your typical theft, vehicle break-ins (didn't maximadrvr get his car broken into twice in the parking deck? granted his car has an insanely tempting sound system), drunken foolishness, property crime, drugs, etc. Raleigh is a very nice city for its size, but this part of town still has its fair share of assholes who come and cause trouble. AFAIK stealing a car isn't that popular around here, but it does happen from time to time.

Since it seems like you haven't quite picked up on it yet, though others have mentioned it, call the tow company whose sign is posted around your apartment complex. Contact the property management company if there is no sign to figure out which company tows in your complex.

Also, if there is a loan out on the vehicle, contact the owner of the loan (bank, credit union, dealership, etc) and ask if they put in an order to have the vehicle repossessed by mistake. If your car was repossessed you'd probably be contacted about it/know about it unless somebody else is paying off your loan for you (i.e. parents).

Pursue those last two options first. I'm guessing you already did your basic CSI work and looked for broken glass in your parking spot or tire marks on the roadway.

a mistubishi would be a great car to steal and cut up for parts, not as good as a civic but still plenty of market for it

t-mobile might be able to give you a location the last time the phone was on, but they probably wont even if they can

^ True. This is just in case the police weren't being very organized/useful at the time and were mistaken.

Are they supposed to know when your vehicle is towed as well, or is that a legal gray area such that the tow companies only have to inform police if a vehicle is towed after somebody calls to report it stolen.

I dont know if its like this in raleigh, but in portland, OR, cars get stolen all the time with almost 100% return rate. kids steal them, drive them till the run out of gas and leave them undamaged without taking anything at all. It's pretty smart because the cops don't bother to look for stolen cars for a few days, they just wait until they get towed. I've got a friend whos had his car stolen twice. It's more of an inconvenience than anything else

ps all you haters-turbocharged pos? is that before or afer my mods? riiiiiight

I know this is the internet and you may just be joking but I really want to know what you are driving because unless its german, you have no room to talk. I'm not into the germans because of the overall look but germany makes the best cars. Mitsubishi'a japanese engineering is unmatched by anyone else besides germany. Its just in my opinion the car looks better than the ones made in Germany but they all come from a long lineage of engineering that pretty much took over the whole world. Pertaining to this conversation, nobody steals German cars...its too risky. So that leaves my car as the top target. I didn't mean to come off bragging but my child had just been kidnapped, now I'll go watch the game.

Somebody above i think mentioned it; but in reality your expensive, high performance, "flashy", or luxury cars are a lot less sought after than your everyday run of the meal econobox or jap ricer. For one thing unless your a professional criminal these cars are designed in a manner resistant to theft from your average bonehead Method rd thug looking for a quick buck off the NCSU students expense.

Second these cars will probably have an alarm or some other nav GPS system that would be a thorn in a thief's ass to steal. Most people in Raleigh are looking to turn the vehicle or gut the car for parts as quick as possible. Likely there are not part of some gone in 60 seconds operation as.....

...The criminals who would have teh skill set to jack a $75k Jaguar or something would probably not be hanging in Raleigh.

Yeah, they don't want to steal those cars, they would more likely break into said cars, even with the risk of an alarm. That was more the point of that comment, besides the fact that driving a shitty car at least gives you the appearance of having no money (and thus makes you less of a target for certain crimes).
