Why would HE leave? "Oh no, a white coach! This is not what I signed up for!"

""After the April 5 news conference to announce the hiring of coach Mark Gottfried, Leslie said he wanted to get to know Gottfried better before deciding whether to enter the draft. A 6-foot-8 forward, Leslie joins Lorenzo Brown and Scott Wood to give N.C. State three returning starters in Gottfried's first season."

From the Leslie article yesterday. fwiw it sounds like wood is back...

it's a good feeling when you think you're about to lose wood, but then wood decides to stay.

I don't recall him saying anything indicating he would transfer...what was said? I don't remember.

i think the writer was just assuming wood was still on the team, i don't think he was basing it on anything.

^ The writer certainly didn't make that assumption with Harrow.

i'm not going to find the quote, but he said something along the lines of "you don't commit to a school, you commit to a coach. i know that's not what people want to hear, but that's how it is".

^^Interesting. I remember some chatter about Wood transferring on a Purdue message board recently. And I really haven't heard anything about it since...I know with a new coaching staff decommits and some transfers are always a possibility, but we'd be in some serious trouble next year without Wood and Harrow.

Wood is one of the best fucking shooters in the country and is athletic and good on defense. He could easily see a long NBA career. We MUST keep him.

6'7 athletic shooter that can handle a little is a high demand asset. He can get his shot off in the NBA and clearly has NBA range. He can also defend better than most comparable players and he's still only a sophomore.

he still has trouble getting his shot off here unless he's wide open or correctly comes off a screen

i like wood i just wouldn't say he could easily be in the NBA

NBA shooters don't need to create their own shot. They just need to hit the ones that are created for them.

He had trouble getting off his shots because of how lowes sets were run. He always was cutting and pivoting off ofthe wrong foot given which the hand he show with.

i just think you are underestimating how difficult it is to make the NBA

Wood has all the tools in his shed, but he needs to put up more consistent numbers in order to be considered NBA material.

that said, he could blow up next season. i really don't know, just saying he has to put in a lot more work if what you say is true.

Numbers don't mean shit. There will be an opportunity for them to see first hand if you can play or not.

Also, if you can shoot with his kind of range and have his height and quick release, you are automatically considered. Kind of like if you are 6-10+ and athletic.

his game is too limited right now

he has a lot of work to do to get a shot at the league. it's not impossible but it's very unlikely at this point since he didn't change his game much from fresh-> soph years

I look at as an opportunity for my son he gets to play his natural position the two or shooting guard. He never played small foward until he got to State. He usually guarded the two any way on Defense. Remember he played Point in High school, granted it was more of a shooting point guard. He only had 27 turnovers for the entire year so I think we will be OK. Quit picking on Ryan he left because he wants to play in a dribble drive offense. Bottom Line! By the way it is hard to get a Juco into State because of the Academic requirements.

I am one of Wood's biggest fans. And all of last season it seemed to me like he was incredibly underutilized, or just plain forgotten.

I don't know what happened there. Hopefully he stays, and hopefully he can be a 16 ppg guy with an above 4o % 3 range.

he's not that far off. i guess 16ppg would be a 60% bump, which is a lot. i can see it though.

i fear that if Wood plays the 2 position, he's going to have to work a lot harder to get open...much better defenders

he doesn't need to get open. Most of the shots he ends up making are when he has a hand in his face and is being defended

I honestly think that's why he will be great

Wood is a horrible defender and probably couldn't stop Terrence Oglesby from dropping 30. He should always guard the weakest wing on the floor, preferably with weak side help readily available.

Wood had a lot more 'crazy/dedicated' fanbase than Harrow did... how many timeout video segments did you see of girls with posters and sh!t about him?

wood he really leave those fans?!?!

One thing that I have noticed is that UNC has no lockdown shooting threat on their roster right now.

And we have some serious wood.

I'll reserve judgment on that until they play indoors

and Barnes still looks like he can hit any open 3
