bachelor party. want to fish. 12-14 people. not hardcore fisherman and just want to enjoy ourselves. from what i hear charters can't take that many so head boat is best option. true!?reccommend a good head boat in the wilmington area? preferably wrightsville but i realize that's not the prime spot for offshore fishing.
8/13/2008 5:49:48 PM
^Yeah, normally charters only take 6-8 max. A headboat will probably be your best option. go to http://www.ncwaterman.com. You should be able to find what you are looking for there.

whats the best lake to fish for bass in the raleigh area? i've been to lake wheeler (closest to my house) about 10 times and haven't caught a thing but I can shore fish at Lake Raleigh and land a bass in fifteen minutes, but I'm trying to use my boat (15.5 ebbtide bass boat)
8/16/2008 11:04:56 AM
If you want to use your boat, Falls Lake or Harris Lake in Raleigh.

I'm very new at fishing. My family and I want to go fishing at the beach over thanksgiving for just a day. We go to Emerald Isle and either want to charter a boat or chill out on the shore or pier. Any suggestions? I searched but couldn't find much.
8/28/2008 10:00:39 PM
if you're new to fishing. I think chartering a boat is a better choice, then you'll know for sure you'll catch some fish.
8/28/2008 10:03:22 PM
new to fishing and chartering a boat probably isn't the best ideago screw around on bogue inlet pier with all the tourists and assholes
8/28/2008 10:04:22 PM
i'd say just fish from the shore and put one of those fishing rod holder things on a truck
8/28/2008 10:05:25 PM
you can't drive on the beach there
8/28/2008 10:06:19 PM
oh
8/28/2008 10:06:59 PM
why chartering isn't a good idea? At least she'll have somebody showing her how to fish properly.
8/28/2008 10:07:46 PM
well, i guess she could charter some kind of inshore crapit's $texas, but whateverpay for my gas to haul ours to the beach and i'll take you fishing
8/28/2008 10:10:27 PM
You can generally charter a 6-person boat for around $800. It might be more now, since it's been a while that I chartered a boat.
8/28/2008 10:16:44 PM
hey katie you doing the city of oaks (half)marathon this year?
8/28/2008 10:18:00 PM
your definition of $texas must be very different from mineand w/ 6 people you must be talking about offshore or something
8/28/2008 10:18:12 PM
yea, deep sea fishing.
8/28/2008 10:18:50 PM
Chartering a boat for your first time fishing is a good idea. You get to fish with people who know what they are doing and get to use their equipment. My best advice is know what you are in for and be prepared. If you are going deep sea, you leave very early in the morning. Depending on where you fish, it generally takes 2-3 hours to get to the fishing spots. If you get sea sick, take dramamine or something. You'll probably get back to the dock around 3:00-4:00pm depending on how the fishing is going. Being sick on a boat all day is no fun. alot of alcohol the night before can make for a long day on the water too. Take sunscreen/sunglasses. They generally dont have food/drinks on the boat, so pack lunch, snacks, and drinks. Normal charter boats take 6-8 people and cost around $1000.If you are going inshore/nearshore, you can get full day and half day charters. Generally the same rules as above, you just arent as far from shore and the day isnt as long. Seems like you can get half day charters for $200-300 and take around 4 people.Hope this helps.

went camping down at freeman park at carolina beach this past weekend. Caught a few small ones but saw some pretty cool things out there....
8/29/2008 2:03:08 PM
Thanks for all the advice! We're currently leaning towards chartering for an inshore for half a day, but we mostly care about the whole drinking and lounging aspect and not so much about catching a significant amount of fish. A quiet pier or shore fishing will probably end up being what we do.I haven't prepared AT ALL for the half-marathon, so I doubt I'll do it. But it was a blast, so you should do it! I may do the thunder race in Charlotte.[Edited on August 29, 2008 at 2:52 PM. Reason : lazy year]
8/29/2008 2:51:29 PM
well in that case, the only real difference between drinking on the beach and drinking while surf fishing is having to actually get up out of your chair every now and then[Edited on August 29, 2008 at 3:22 PM. Reason : and there's no such thing as a quiet fishing pier. fuckers will drive you nuts out there.]
8/29/2008 3:21:33 PM
When did fishing stop being fun? It just seems like a chore that has lost all its fun. In other news, we did limit on Mahi's this weekend.
9/2/2008 8:58:04 PM
that offshore stuff always seemed that way to me.skinny water is where it's at. cheap, easy, relaxing. no bait to catch, no constant boat driving except the trolling motor, short prep. timethe canoe is the ultimate relaxation though. peace and quiet.
9/2/2008 9:20:28 PM
Fishing the tar during the shad run and floating in a jon boat on a pond catching 6" crappie is generally much more fun than trying to stay awake while trolling for kings. But, doing some offshore stuff every once in a while is fun too.We caught this 18 lb king this weekend:The neighbors caught this 27 lb African pompano. That's a big freakin pompano. I've never seen one before.^^How do you go about finding mahimahi and what baits & lures do you use?Another question for yall...what lures could you toss to kings if you found a baitfish feeding frenzie?
9/2/2008 10:00:04 PM
They caught a couple african pompano off Ocean Crest Pier on Oak Island a few weeks back. That's the first I've ever seen caught there.
9/2/2008 10:05:28 PM
^^Finding warm water, weedlines, floating debris etc. We didn't even troll, just used ultra lights with bass assassins and a couple of outfits with just bare hooks and pieces of cut ballyhoo or squid to bail them.
9/3/2008 6:20:23 AM
^^^that's my daddy!! but that's the neighbor's fish
9/3/2008 8:35:44 AM
my pops tore the specks up today. even caught one rockfish.however, i was stuck in god-forsaken raleigh.
9/8/2008 9:38:16 PM
where's he tearing the specs up? I was wondering what the tropical storm moving through would do to the fishing.
9/9/2008 8:17:16 AM
^trout fishermen are way secretive. all i'll say is he went soon enough after that storm that all that rain hadn't pushed the salt wedge back out yet. it was well inside the mouth, i'll let you guess which river.
9/9/2008 11:28:56 PM
Limit of Mahi and a 30lbs Wahoo yesterday.
9/14/2008 5:50:45 PM
anyone planning on fishing in the Fall Brawl at OIFC?
9/22/2008 2:13:40 PM
Grouper Reg changes coming down the pipe that could have huge impacts.no grouper for commercial or residential fishermen from January through April.http://www.safmc.net/News/NewsReleases/NewsReleaseSeptember232008/tabid/582/Default.aspxAlso changes bag limits, etc. There goes the charter business and lots of rec. fishermen.
9/24/2008 12:33:29 PM
now if they'll make a law of no speckled trout or flounder for commercial or recs for a while...
9/24/2008 12:41:35 PM
think I posted this last year, but still one of my favorite catches
9/24/2008 1:35:09 PM
a big stinky ocean garcongratulations, i guess
9/24/2008 6:52:34 PM
my pops has been catching trout consistently the past few weeks. maybe i'll finally get to fish some over fall break. october is a magical month for saltwater fishing in NC.hey buddy, have you heard the news?
10/2/2008 8:13:31 PM
yeah, kings are all over in close...ocean crest pier in oak island caught 28 in one day on tuesday
10/2/2008 9:31:55 PM
^probably lost a lot more if they landed 28[Edited on October 2, 2008 at 9:33 PM. Reason : too bad ocean crest is full of douches][Edited on October 2, 2008 at 9:33 PM. Reason : i'd rather take the boat and not catch anything than go on OC and catch 3 kings]
10/2/2008 9:32:45 PM
^^it was actually 9 on tuesday and 28 on wednesday
10/3/2008 9:16:24 AM
