i wonder if this would be worthwhile if he'd take $2500 or so (or $2000 ). I figure an engine could be had for $1000 or less, and it can't be but so hard to swap an engine on a sportbike, right? I mean, it's just 4 bolts and a few hoses/wires/cables, and a shifter linkage, right?

(i never had to drop the engine from my GSX-R when I rebuilt the bike)



or i wonder if it's just a stuck valve or something, since it happened after the bike sat for a little while?

Yeah, that part is odd. That's a huge compression loss for something that supposedly didn't have catastrophic failure. It would probably take quite a while to get the head cover off, but it would be pretty easy to see if it were a sticking valve. I'd just borrow or buy a leakdown test kit and try that first. You should be able to tell if it's leaking into the exhaust, intake, or crank to get a better idea of what is going on.

Sounds like a pain in the ass to me though. What's the bike worth in good running condition?

Not looking at either one specifically, but I am looking for a Tahoe or something similar to haul my junk. What are everyone's thoughts on the first of a new model versus the last of the old model?

I tend to think new models have new problems that might take a while to work out, but they generally come with some good improvements over their predecessors. I just don't know if it's worth paying more to get a new model. Mileage/options being equal it looks like I'd have to pay anywhere from $4k-$5k more for the newer body style.

ok. i haven't really tried to sell either the truck or the trailer, yet. been waiting on ivan to sell some of his stuff to get the money together. i've been trying to get up with him via PM and phone, but haven't heard back yet.


what do you think about that TJ, joel? i know jeeps aren't your thing, but that seems like a potentially awesome deal. i don't need it as a DD, although i want it to be well-sorted enough that i could use if for that if i wanted to. (i really want it as an offroad toy, PWC tow machine, outer banks beach cruiser/camping machine, and to have a backseat for my daughter--which is why it needs to be capable of daily driving, even though i wouldn't really use it for that).
