^^It's also obvious that many of you love Sid for whatever reason.

Finishing bottom 3 in the ACC for the fourth year in a row would not be good.

i don't think anyone loves sid, but some of us are willing to give him time to become a good coach.

we gave sendek time to become a good coach, but sadly he couldn't do it. sid probably won't get as long to try as sendek did, but that's okay.

when the only coach you can find that's willing to take over your program has zero college coaching experience and zero recruiting ties, it comes w/ on the job training.

People seem to constantly forget that Herb was 21-43 in the ACC in his first 4 years.

And he didn't make it NCAA tourney his 3rd season... nor his 4th... and not even in his 5th year. It wasn't until his 6th year at State that he made it to the tourney. 6th year folks. And he had been a college coach for 3 year prior to joing the Pack.

Yeah, i know, Les Robinson years, blah blah. Just figured I'd remind people of the facts.

God why can't we put the Herb crap to bed. Herb left Lowe with a terrible team. The best player left from the Herb years was Atsur who only played half a season for Lowe. McCauley, Fells, Costner were talented, but were lazy and undisciplined. Grant was super inconsistent.

All the key contributors from Herb's last season left before Lowe got here. I still partly think Herb jumped ship because he knew 2006-07 was going to be a bad team. Plus he had a shitty recruiting class coming in that consisted of that Larry Davis kid who went to St Johns, Dan Werner who's okay, not good now at UF, and Horner, who might be the best of that crappy trifecta.

The first season was just a train wreck outside of some good ball in March. His 2nd year was wasted due to the Hickson shit, Gavin being a retard and of course freshman trying to play the point. Last season was wasted by the three mentioned above. We got to give Lowe a couple of more years IMO.

Herb was 19-35 over the same first three + 6 games of his tenure.

I think when some people compare Lowe to Herb, they are magically hoping they could somehow get Herb back, or something else completely retarded, impossible, and not worth mentioning in the first place

^^ Forde, a Louisville guy, is pining for Sendek to be back here?

I don't understand why people don't feel that it is relevant to compare Lowe's start to Sendek's end. I mean he did take over the program afterward. Of course there are mitigating factors but it's not at all outrageous for sportswriters to compare. In fact, it would be irresponsible not to.

^ it was a knock on Lowe but also on Sendek. He was obviously implying that Sendek isn't on Dean's level of course, but the way Lowe's tenure has started out has made Sendek look better. durrr...

^ I don't mind sportwriters making comparisons, but making them without any reference to what a shithole group Sid was left with and also failing to mention that he came here because he loves NC State and that we struck out with every other coach in America is irresponsible.

sidney blew this game. when smith is in foul trouble you have to tell javi to suck it up and play 5 minutes especially if hes hot. we were up 5 now we're down 8. 8 minutes scoreless

^i was about to post, i remember a few year back talk about sid bringing an uptempo offense, but it seems like we are still running herb's offense. take 20 seconds to set it up, then live and die by the three.

we basically have 4 players: degand, gonzo, smith and wood. when one of those guys is out, we stink. horner is off and on and powell seems like he is trying to ocme on, but tries to force it too much.

everybody else is basically 90% garbage.

also, can wood not throw an entry pass? b/c if he can why the fuck did we not run 2 man game w/ he and smith at least a couple times? seems like every time down the court wood would set on the weak side.

i'm talking about those assholes that said we'd win by 20. i just don't want to see them coming in here bitching for sid not meeting their unrealistic expectations. fact: we are at best AS good as UNC. we aren't a 20 point favorite.

i'm fine with people criticizing and making observations, i just don't want to see any bullshit based on stupid expectations.

sorry for johnny come lately, i've been trying to stay out this thread lately (for arguments like this, they are gonna give me a fucking heart attack)

BUT ANYWAY

i love how you dismiss out of hand an extremely important factor when comparing the starts of the two coaches. everyone loves to mention the dregs sid was left with, but ignores the fact that they were an nba team compared to the players herb started with.

plus you fail to mention that herb at least made the nit many of those early years.

But its ok:

1) TALENT

2) RECRUITS

3) POINT GUARD

4) HIS PLAYERS

to quote myself, i want to talk more about this: vandenburg and mays (or even painter) need to learn to play quick.i think we are best w/

degand
gonz
wood
howell
smith

horner can spot 2-4. williams and davis can at least provide some energy as subs for 2-3. we desparetly need someone who can competently give gonz/degand and smith some rest. when vandenburg or mays come in, i usually just groan. they are the worst players that see any pt.

unfortunately, we dont have the talent to play great D night in night out, there isnt much lowe can do about that (other than recruit, but that is another argument). we generally play good team D and smtih and gonz dont get exposed too much.

that said, when mays is in, you might as well just let the other guard score to avoid fouls.

Roy switching to zone was the changing point in the game.

Hard to believe we were up 43-38 and then didn't make a FG for 8 minutes or whatever.

not like gonz/mays/williams are any better at D. at least horner can score. smith isnt exactly a star on D either, do we bench him?

basketball is filled with players who cant play a lick of D but stay on the court b/c of offense. granted horner isnt super-prolific, but you play with what you got. who do you propose to be off the bench before him?

^^ at the 2? Mays, Davis, Williams...all before Horner. At the 3....I would still go with Williams or Davis most of the time. Depends on the matchups. I just don't think there are many people he can matchup with as a 2 or 3 in the ACC. I mean realistically....i'd prefer he not be on the court on the defensive end

Howell is already better. It's not the fact that Horner sucks and the other guys are better, its more of the fact that he is a senior playing 30+ minutes and his time has run out....no potential at all.

as would i, but howell cant play 2-3 on O. granted, he tries to sometimes, but he cant/shouldnt.

also, somebody needs to get in howell's ear and tell him to stop slapping at he ball 30, 50 and 80 ft from the basket. a full court press does not need you to steal the ball from a dribbler, howell. best case, you get beat off the dribble, worst case you pick up a stupid foul.
