I played with my camera this morning. I definitely need some edumacation on these lenses. Also, my cat needs to learn how to model.

I'm looking for some recommendations for a new lens for my D90. I'm visiting Hawaii at the end of October and was thinking about either renting the 24-70 2.8 lens or purchasing 1 or 2 additional lenses. I already have the Nikon 35mm 1.8 but I have been looking at the various 50mm, 60mm, and 85mm primes that Nikon offers and can't quite narrow it down to make a selection. What should I look to get that is fast and sharp? What about any of the Sigma mid-range zooms?

Any tips for an engagement session?

I'm shooting at some gardens i think. should i bring a monolight? or just a reflector. I think i'll have an assistant with me.

At the moment I'm really really loving to shoot with the 24 1.4L. I think it compliments crop sensor cameras perfectly

If anyone has a second, the film I shot on my 7D earlier this year is in a little contest. http://www.talenthouse.com/creativeinvites/preview/a0c4cf16e5636a891e155e422fac8827/225

It's in the top five which if it stays there I think means Brett Ratner will watch it and pick the winner from the top five to PA for him or something (I think that'd be my friend that directed it and not me but whatever, it'd be cool), but more votes would be great to push it above the garbage that's #2 and #1 (http://www.talenthouse.com/creativeinvites/preview/a714f73bd15396fa4992ce5ac5cfed41/225 and http://www.talenthouse.com/creativeinvites/preview/a91b21c20ba436763107df38de3bdd44/225)

You can vote using facebook, twitter, or text. I think you can set it to not post on your fb or twitter.

thanks

Picasa...

Its somewhat soft as it was wide-open at f1.2. It was a jpg I nabbed off of a RAW image file.

Very nice shots! What lens/cam setup you use? What about post-processing?

I especially like the 'shoes shot'...

thank you. mostly a canon 7d with a sigma 30mm f/1.4.

Edited them mostly in lightroom and a bit in photoshop.

Lightroom was for curves, saturation, some selective contrast and clarity, and photoshop was for removing sweat. which was pretty tedious, the guy was sweating a ton.

I like your post processing Alex. Very modern and vibrant. #1 is nice, def a good pic to add to your main portfolio.

My only complaint with the pics is the bags under his eyes. Gotta put some makeup on him before shots or spend some time with the airbrush in photoshop. Honestly, hire your girl friend for 75 bucks an hour as makup artist, charge to the clients and shoot away. Shit, anyone could do simple makeup work.

Also, if you add a large white fill card below their heads or waist on tighter crops, it could fill in those shadows a little bit as well.

The weakest pics in your set is 4, 6 and 7. 4 and 7 because of the guy's emotionless face and 6 because the mood/lighting doesn't go along with the set.

thanks for the critiques.

I intended to bring my girlfriend along to hold a reflector but it was too early I guess, she was sleeping.

Yeah I guess I should have edited the bags under the eyes. I didn't do much face PP besides getting rid of razor burn and obvious acne. Most of the cloning was the sweat though.

The couple seems happy. they posted them on FB and people seemed to enjoy them, although they kind of wrecked a few pics. the guy added some saturation and cropped some, I guess they were unhappy with how pale they looked:

I'd complain but i'm not pro enough to be all macho.

Ugh, that looks like garbage. If you've got your name attached to it and they're murdering them, I'd say something.

Those photos, that gig, is a reflection of your talent and the work you can do. That last photo isn't anything I'd want my name on (not because it is a bad shot, but because of whatever the fuck they did to it)

I know a lot of photographers do not give permission to edit, crop, or remove their watermark when using them on facebook and such.

I have $205 to spend at Best Buy and I want to use it on a DSLR

I'll probably only use it a few times a month, so I'm not looking to spend $1000

what should I go with in the $600-800 range?

Thanks for the words guys.

so, the UM magazine has a fashion spread every issue, I helped out some friends still in school for one today. Snapped a couple when I had the chance, which was not often. Came up with this:

Haven't retouched the hair yet, I guess I should.

Early morning or evening usually has the nicest light. Midday sucks -- too harsh and doesn't cast good shadows.
