She pushed the white woman down out of anger. She didn't mean to kill her. There was no intent. Typically when someone pushes someone else down, unless its off the side of a building or something along those lines, they don't mean to kill that person. It should be and is a manslaughter charge because there was no intent.6/27/2006 12:42:08 PM |

i'm not arguing that...i'm saying people should be responsible for their actions

there should definitely be some counseling + a lot more hours of community service + maybe some more jailtime 6/27/2006 12:47:32 PM |

I think the terms are somewhat fair considering that this woman had no prior history of crime.
I don't subscribe to the idea that we need to lockup everyone and the judge showed admirable restraint in the case. She should be placed on two years probation though. 6/27/2006 12:48:51 PM |

Really, 200 hours of community service and $35,000 restitution? That's absurd! She took the life of a human being, second degree murder, and all she gets is some community service and ordered to pay about or less than 1 year's income. Something is wrong with the judicial system. She was 39 years old, and she shoved a 52 year old-shouldn't she be out of the kindergarten retaliation stage by now? And this "I feel sorry for someone who can't control their temper" is bullshit, she didn't mention having any anger problems so lets not make excuses. 6/27/2006 12:53:26 PM |

Bridget-LOL, No. I'm saying that she's old enough to know better, and she's not in kindergarten anymore. You don't bully around older people, or anyone for that matter. It's rediculous that she would do such a thing.

Exactly. Just because she didn't have the intention to kill the older lady IN FRONT OF HER DAUGHTER does not make it ok.

Someone loses their temper and physically assaults a woman in a grocery store because she was provoked by a tasteless verbal remark...the person she assaulted was a blind lady and clearly was not a physical threat...so the lady who loses her temper pushes her down forcefully...the altercation kills the lady after about a weeks time
Don't even think about the fact that a woman couldn't control her temper and took the life of someone in a grocery store

The fact that she didn't intend to kill the woman is why she could plead to manslaughter. Involuntary manslaugter is a Class F Felony in NC. In NC a class F felony's MINIMUM imprisonment time is 10 Months on a mitigated sentence.
What is the reasoning for reducing the sentence further? 6/27/2006 2:40:46 PM |
