I saw it last night, and didn't really like it. I can't really pick out anything that bothered me, but I just didn't like it.

Oh, and it bugged me that they put a NC license plate on the front of that Bimmer. They should know that cars only have one plate in NC.

just saw it today, was very pleased. i was wondering how she was gonna kill that chick that got axed in the throat, a giant rock to the face was not one of my guesses. did anyone else notice at the end when shes crawling out of the ground how nice her ass looked?

Quote :
"there is no way they filmed that on the east coast" ie. hiking in through a giant red wood forrest"

i'm pretty sure those werent redwoods, and i guess you've never heard of joyce kilmer national forest. not to say that it was filmed on the eastcoast because i have no idea, but there are places near the area its supposed to take place with giant trees

thx,

I saw it a couple days ago, it was pretty much the shit, just like dog soldiers, Neil Marshall is pretty much a horror genius.

unrated directors cut dvd ending spoiler and question.

in the dvd ending, she crawls out of the cave and sees the Juno bitch with bleeding eyes beside her for the "last scare" thing, but then it reverts to her back in the cave and she thinks she's looking at her daughter w/ a birthday cake, and the cake's really a torch so basically the cave made her insane but now she's happy etc etc...

so is this the same as the ending in US theaters?

the movie in US theaters ended with the scare in the car. and was the better one.

I disagree, what's the point of her escaping into the real world, she has no family and like 5 of her friends just died, she wouldn't be happy, she is happy in the cave(although insane).

the director talks about the different endings on the special features of the dvd. he said he sort of likes them both, and are sort of an hommage to some old favorites of his, the one where she gets out is like texas chainsaw massacre, she got away but has been driven insane, and the one where shes trapped is like Brazil, she is doesnt get away, but is happy. either way, the movie is awesome.

yea i dont have any problem with the character not being happy in the end. in fact, in a horror movie at least, i like those endings more. that's why i liked the US ending-whereas she was taunted by her family's death earlier she's now taunted by a whole new set of horrors.

yeh..

I like the "well the character is fucked but at least she's happy although insane" thing, like in (the terry gilliam cut) of brazil which is one of my favorite movies. it's like the cave finally engulfed her completely and made her lose her mind.

I think they did the same thing to Brazil for US theaters, made it so the dream sequence that the director put in wasn't really a dream sequence, not positive, but I know they cut a lot of stuff out in the US version

yep:

Quote :
"Gilliam's original cut of the film is 142 minutes long and ends on a dark note. This version was released internationally outside the US by 20th Century Fox.

US distribution was handled by Universal. Universal executives thought the ending tested poorly, and Universal chairman Sid Sheinberg insisted on dramatically re-editing the film to give it a happy ending, a decision that Gilliam resisted vigorously."

goddamn universal

although the descent wasn't a studio's decision as far as i know

"old thread was too old but i just watched this and didn't really understand the ending

was her leaving the cave all a dream and she never really escaped?

why did she kill juneau? the girl she hit with the rock told her not to trust her and she did it? I didn't quite hear it clearly.

juneau could stll be alive and they could both be in the cave with a possible part 2?"

yes, she didn't really leave the cave...

and wtf? I'm pretty sure Juno was killed by the monsters.

she killed juno because:

A) Juno was fucking her husband.
B) She knows Juno killed the other chick

so did the other chick not know she didn't mean to kill her? i couldnt really hear what she told sarah. all i heard was don't trust her. and where did you learn about the fucking her husband?

you can kinda piece it together. Juno and the husband exchange looks when getting out of the raft, you can tell there's some tension b/t the husband and wife, and I think beth rips a necklace off juno, which has an expression that the husband always said or something?

I don't remember the exact details, but I think the necklace was basically the proof. and sure it was an accident, but she just left her for dead

Yes, Juno was def fucking the husband. That was what the whole necklace thing was about; it confirmed it by having the phrase the husband always said. And yes, it was an accident but she did leave her for dead and I think the girl that got killed was mad she left her without checking if she was alive.

I thought the movie was OK, but definitely not worth the hype and praised bestowed upon it. Poor character development, which made me unsympathetic to any of the characters. Except for Sarah and Juno, and sometimes the lesbian (Holly), most of the characters looked indistinguishable in the cave with the hard hats on. A lot of the important parts of the script was lost due to the sometimes incomprehensible British dialect. For example, when Beth lay dying and was warning Sarah about Juno, I barely understood a word she was said. I thought Juno fighting the creatures Kung-Fu style was kind of hokey. It wasn't a bad film--just not as great as I thought it would be. I wouldn't make any effort to see it again.

God fordbid people should use weak sarcasm. I never said anything was wrong with it, nor did I imply they should adapt to a universally understood dialect. I just said it was hard to understand at times.

In the commentary, the directors say that the ending in the cave is open for discussion, and they never say either way whether she just saw her mind was still in the cave with her daughter, or if she just dreamed about her escape.
