On the off-chance this is actually a freshman and not an alias...

Welcome to college. Nobody cares what you've done before now. You'll have four years (or more possibly) to prove yourself. Lots of folks on here are/were fairly active at NCSU. Keep us posted on what you do ... be interested to see if you live up to your claims.

Quote :
"I assume my opion is unpopular because you guys are just biased towards your favorite schools"

Your opinion is unpopular because it's just that, opinion. Post some links to some reports backing up your claims. Otherwise, I could say "the sky is falling", and it would have about as much merit as most of your statements so far ... such as:

Quote :
"Alot of peeps get mugged around here, and thats not sweet."
Quote :
"Academically, I feel NCSU is a competitor. I think its on the same level with the other schools"
Quote :
"Very well, the hillsborough area is infested with poverty. You cant walk 10 meters without being hassled. Now thats poverty."
Quote :
"And the crime rate has increased around campus, from a report I read. There is no debating that."

If you are actually interested in an intellectual discussion of different colleges, most of us would welcome it. You seriously screwed up the way you started this thread ... might want to create a new one and try again.

What is the dad-gom deal with this alias talk. I don't have anything to prove.

How so? Where did I err? Academics, area, costs etc are determining factors.

That's great. That's common knowledge. What you stated was still strictly OPINION. Surely you did some research before choosing your college? Why not state what you found and the source you got it from for a start?

Opinion is a major part of it. You want me to just rule opinion out?

Quote :

You must have missed what this was insinuating in my opening huh? Everything was pretty much tip for tap and it came down to my opinion.

^^ I have been a Hurricanes fan for years (grew up in south Florida). I am fairly confident I could get accepted to grad school there. However, they aren't ranked in the top 50 in engineering. It sucks that it cost so much to go there, but I'd be better off having NCSU on my degree. Oh well, I'll just have to wait a little longer before I move back to Florida.

Of course you did, Michigan tuition would've been crazy high, and it's too cold up there.

Seriously though, NCSU is great, and although I have no idea what UM is like, you'll get along just fine at NC State.

But rule #1: Learn to hate UNC. It's honestly quite sad you applied there (not enough hatred out of high school I guess), but you've gotta put that behind you and get on to hardcore hatin'.

And oh yeah, don't take what folks say on TWW seriously. 99.9% of what people say is rubbish and they'd never say it to your face if they ever left their precious computer chair to actually meet up with you. Take this site with a bucket of salt.

cyrion, that would be me. That, and the spots at UNC-CH were taken by students who went to poorly performing high schools in the middle of nowhere. And I'm okay with that. But I'm not okay with the math/science/engineering students at NCSU calling me stupid. From the start, I resented being looked down upon by a bunch of kids who probably aced the math portion of the SAT and barely broke 400 on the verbal. 690 math, 710 verbal here, and I just don't enjoy math. And apparently at State, that makes me stupid.

Rose Hulmann Institute of Technology would've been my choice, but I didn't apply because I didn't feel ike paying $50 to apply to a school that I wouldn't want to relocate so much for (Indiana). That and it costs just a little bit of cash, and I failed to actually research and realize it was the top engineering school in the country. It actually has classes towards the specialization that I want to pursue, nanotechnology, beginning with sophomore year taught by one of three professors who wrote the major textbook on the subject. Here I have to wait until like Junior, Senior before I even get introduction to nano.

Of course, I'm definitely considering it now, maybe study abroad. NCSU just feels like I'm running in circles with all the classes I have to retake (CH 101, physics, math...) and the faculty feels half assed.

On the off-chance Sour isn't an alias....

You are about the same age as me, and I'll assume graduated around the same time. I graduated with a class of 430 from Charlotte, several of whom were accepted at Chapel Hill. I got accepted myself but decided on NCSU. Surely recent news coverage highlights the school's poor performance (http://www.cms.k12.nc.us/includes/gfi.asp?fileHandle=3181.asp). And SURELY being located near South Park/Carolina Mall is in the middle of nowhere.

Too much "wrong" to dissect ... I'll say you are going to do REAL well working on a multi-disciplinary team.

Quote :
"And apparently at State, that makes me stupid."

No dear. I'm not sure what you did or didn't do during your undergraduate years, but whatever it was or wasn't, it apparently didn't satisfy you. Your inability to utilize NCSU resources (and there's a ton of them) properly to satisfy your undergraduate experience is what makes you stupid.

Do us a favor, don't generalize on false assumptions / poor facts ... you make Earl look good and make ignorant folks who look down upon liberal arts majors appear "correct".

Earl, I just posted a link to a factual report. Do me a favor and post some for UM, UVA, etc. I'm curios about UVA especially ... if you want an intellectual converstation that is.

man you took that bait bridget.

well, there was some truth to it, but it was mostly just trolling. a lot of the people i did meet that were whiney were the ones who wanted to go to UNC but couldnt despite the fact that NCSU is a fine school.

gotta love the newbies

i still dont understand what you mean by poverty.
unless you hang out down by south st and saunders.. thats probably the worst intersection i've driven thru in Raleigh and 9 times outta 10 theres a cop there so i dont even worry.

Sure i've chased off bums that were sleeping on the patio at playmakers before but all i did was go out yelling at them with a broom threatening to call the cops. they'd simply wander back to the railroad tracks.

I work in Durham. I've driven all over Durham. you want to see some poverty or rough neighborhoods drive around there.

as far as looks thats cool you like the bricks. we're all sick of them. i choose to come to NCSU over Uconn, Umass, UNH, Cornell, and Texas A&M. NCSU was the 2nd worst looking campus next to Umass (Amherst).
i came here for the strength of my program and i liked the appeal of living in a sprawled out city. Raleigh has a lot to offer.
