i heard from the news that they're thinking of giving wristbands or hand stamps to ensure that you sit in the section assigned by your gate ticket

fair enough...
What you will read tomorrow...

Students will be getting a hand stamp as they pass through the gates. That much is for certain. The question right now is if they can implement the full change by tomorrow on the tickets...which will be to make all student seating be first come first serve at the stadium, w/ a stamp denoting which section you get based on when you pass through the gates....meaning, you get there as part of the first 2600 students through the gate, you instantly get a stamp saying "7&8" on your hand, and you get to sit in that area...the next set would be "SEZ" for south end zone (sec 110-115), the next set is "NEZ" and the last set is "14&15"

the thing is that a stamp at the gate will solve duplicating problems, which led to overcrowding and sections being shut down...and the first come first serve all general admission thing is to get people in the stadium faster with incentive beyond just where you sit within a section

and oh yeah...still keeping group registration, so all of your group will win together or not...
and you only get guaranteed to be together in the stadium by showing up together

and oh yeah...flame on...I'll post rationale as I read the thread...

damn....what if we like sitting in the new endzone, but get there while they are giving out 7&8 handstamps? Can we opt for another section?

right now they are saying yes...but they dont' want a swarm trying that, so you it may end up being like maryland does it...meaning...they open it up for sec 7&8, and then 1 hour before kickoff they open it up for NEZ, so you know when to come...more details have to be worked out

So what happens when the stamp rubs off? You know people will try to alter/remove the stamps and then what? They can't go back to their section?

I doubt people are going to go through the trouble to alter the stamp since it takes more effort and I doubt it will wear off in 4 hours so wear shouldn't be an issue as long as athletics doesn't use cheap stuff. oh and if you're dumb enough to remove the stamp, then you should be shown the exit immediately.

Um I wasn't implying that I would. I was just saying what if? Also I was curious if you request a ticket and didnt put the group leaders name down...can you go back and fix it? Like cancel it and request another one with the leaders name? Or will that mess up my chances of getting picked?

until midnight you can go back to request and put in the group leader id and then click "request ticket"

and the stamp ink won't rub off...it's been tested already, and it will last at least 24 hours even w/ soap/water/scrubbing...

and

they could always go in, get a stamp, and use a passout to go back to the tailgating lots

what if the world ends over the weekend and there is no FSU game? something could be absolutely perfect, and people would still what if it to death.

It isn't like hand stamping is a new concept. It is used at many places to donote who can buy alcohol, is used at almost every amusement park I have ever been to (although they now use the ink that responds to UV light). Sure, if you try hard enough it is quite possible that you could rub it off . . . But why would you wanna do that? In my opinion, they shouldn't let you into any section without a stamp. And you would have to know what the other stamps look like in order to alter your stamp to look like the other section's.

You won't be allowed into a section w/o a stamp...period...it's your fault for trying to alter the stamp, and there will be no exceptions

and I just read the technician, but I don't agree w/ them at all...this causes a few problems, but those are all problems for people who want their cake and to eat it too....
You can either tailgate for four hours and get 14&15 seats, or you can tailgate for 2.5 hours and get a 7&8 seat...

people have complained that they want the old system on a first come first serve basis at reynolds before...this is similiar, but it's a first come first serve system at the stadium...which by the way was asked for by over 1000 students last year, and I have emails to prove it...

people really make my blood boil when they publish opinions without knowing all of the rationale that goes into a decision (technician)...this process has been 3 years in the making, and there are plenty of reasons not to go back to the old system...fewer than the reasons not to try this new method...

Give it a go, and if it doesn't work then it will be scrapped

and yeah...FSU will be an adequate test for 2 reasons....1) most people won't be tailgating anyway because of the thursday classes things...and 2) because it will undoubtably be the largest home game this season

Great in theory, horrible for tailgating. Absolutely horrible.

I would be 100% for this ***IF*** we could tailgate 8 hours before kickoff. 6 hours would be plenty for me, and I wouldn't mind going in 2 hours prior to kickoff for the best seats.

THis is really dumb. Student gov't is a waste of space. They are just a pawn for stafford and the chancellor. Tailgating has been a tradtion for so many years. What can you do in 2.5 hrs. You can barely cook anything. The lines for sections 7 and 8 will be extremly long and then when they are doing the switch, what if your int he middle of your group? They say that they will be able to compensate for it but I doubt it. The idiots that run it will not be able to stop the hundreds of people trying to get into sections 7&8 an hour before the game. I'm betting that there is a line a thousand deep an hour and half before kickoff.

i just sent an email to sg...this is rediculous, the student government has essientially done away with rewarding blocks and students that have good attendence with good seats. my block has had the highest attendence rating at state for the past two years and now we are gonna get fucked on seats. not to mention that this new policy essientially eliminates tailgating for football. the university has taken away almost all our traditions and after i graduate tom stafford and the student government have just aided my decision not to ever donate money to the university, athletics or any other group in need. fuck the administration im glad im getting out in may

^you obviously know nothing about how tickets have actually worked last year and this year...block seating isnt' changing...you just all ahve to show up at the gate together to be assured seating together...which is basically like it has been, because sec 7 has been shut down before locking out people who didnt' show up with their friends...no change...and the ticket system has NEVER rewarded peopel for good attendance...NEVER...so that hasn't changed either.

tickets and tailgating aren't considered by the same committees, and the changes are not to solve tailgating..they are to solve some major safety issues we had last game, and the the overcrowding that caused section 7 & 15 to be shut down

you have to wait for the right people to meet to discuss tailgating, which when I find out when that will happen I'd like to get a couple 1000 students together to sit in on it

cluster fuck at the admission gate

"OK, sir. Empty everything out of your pockets, shake your keychain, pat down your cargo pockets, lift up your shirt while spinning around, show me your ticket, let me stamp your hand....oh wait, section 8 might be full. Let me walkie talkie the Staff One guy at section 8. OK, section 8 is indeed full. Let me stamp your other hand with NEZ. If the Staff One guy at the NEZ entrance sees a section 8 stamp and a NEZ stamp on your hand, have him walkie talkie me and then you can come back here and I'll use my special hand de-stamper to remove the section 8 stamp. Then you'll be able to sit in NEZ."

This is awesome! So the game starts at 7:30, so that means gates open at 5:00, and I will still be at fucking work. Looks like a nosebleed seat for me. Thanks.

Can someone just explain what's wrong with the following system:

use the online system to pick which students get tickets. Then distribute real tickets at Reynolds like the old days with real seat numbers. Sect 7&8 should go to all winning seniors, with the other sections being broken down by seniority also. Even the police said that the only real way to enforce overcrowding is for there to be 1 ticket for 1 seat for 1 person.

it does not reward the loyal fans who show up during the pregame stretch-a-thon. it rewards douchebags who have no friends and don't like to drink beer.

so instead they just go from one shitty solution to another till eventually they figure out that real tickets work best

Online signup then paper tickets work best but since they don't want to spend the extra money they should have just done stamps for sections 7 and 8 and had them enter at a designated gate.

I would absolutely hate it for whomever it happens to, but seriously I can't wait for this scenario to happen:

This stuff is forcing kids to have zero tailgating time unless they want retard seats. Thus, kids starting getting blasted 3 hours before even driving out the field. All it will take to give the fags in control of tailgating a stiff realization is for a car full of NCSU kids to get into a massive wreck (thanks to alcohol) on the way to the game.

The first words out of their mouths will be in regards to the tailgating restrictions, and the higher-ups can start eating crow.

The "first come, first serve" is moronic at best. You will never solve the overcrowding problem without creating another problem until it's 1 person, 1 seat, everytime. Just let the system dictate seats at random, so tailgaters aren't always in the nosebleeds and solo losers in the front row.

Seriously, what idiot(s) honestly thought this idea was a good one? You've got to be kidding me. The logic just fails. I see the premise, but if you ponder it longer than 20 seconds you realize kids will hate this, they'll do everything they can to override it, and the gates will be even worse of next Thursday than Day 1 of last season. This is "supposed" to get kids in seats earlier? I'll bet we'll have more empty at the start of the broadcast than the BC game.

^ It's not. I hate alcohol. I don't drink because personally, I think beer tastes like a fresh can of urine.

HOWEVER, I'd wager that it's hard to find a group of friends (i.e. the folks you registered for tickets with) that don't have at least a few folks that wanna tailgate every moment of every 4 hours.

The system drags you down, even if you wanna be there to watch warmups, chances are your group will now be sitting elsewhere because you ain't gonna convince them to show up until 5 minutes into the game.

my thoughts, exactly.

i hope you all realize how much of a disaster this is gonna be, which is gonna look great on a nationally televised thursday night game, which gets even more casual fans because it's usually the only game on that night.

first of all, this was the only difference in our system and the schools that use the same system without any problems...

secondly, having real tickets wasn't working before, and we had overcrowding 2 years ago...demand has gone up, and we would have just as hard of a time because we'd have to hire about 20 more event one staff for the student sections alone. They would have to police the sections constantly to make sure people didn't fill in gaps, which is oen reason for using general admission - there wouldn't be gaps in the middle of a section

also...the way this works, exactly: when you enter the gates, you will get a stamp. The system has now been set so that at 2600 people scanned among all 10 scanners, they start reporting that they need to change stamps. The sections are able to hold a few extra students, and event one is having training to know that if you hvae a stamp it's because you got it at the gate and you are guaranteed a seat in that section...

I will personally be hanging around the gate 10 entrace for the game, so I can watch the reactions and problems...there are measures for making minor changes during the game if need be, and the proper people will be called if something fails...there's really not anything simpler than stamping a hand though, and the system is very acurate as to how many people enter the gates every second, so that won't be a problem

give it a chance guys..I think you will be surprised as to how well this works

but as far as tailgating...again, that's a whole nother issue, that I personally believe can only be solved by getting alumni, paying guests, and students together for a rally of some sort
petitions are too silent

don't get me wrong: i think this system is not the ideal solution. i just think it's funny how so many people equate binge alcohol drinking with being cool and social. it's so juvenille.

they should just give out regular print tickets at reynolds like i (and many others) have suggested before.

^ I concur on the drinking part. I come to watch a game, not be numb and yell, but that's just me...

I'm just saying this idea is retarded. There will never be a good option unless it's 1 person, 1 seat.

And besides Lee, you mention the scanners will alert when the 2600 number is approaching, but I recall these scanners being the bane of all hell breaking loose that first game. Better hope this trial run goes better than that one.

whoever mentioned that tailgating is more than beer...thank you...you are the first sensible person so far...because while I agree with the drinking and have quite a fee myself, that argument will get you no where...if you implore to the administration that you are responsible adults and enjoy tailgating for reasons other than becoming beligerent drunks, then they will listen...but right now it's obvious from walking through the lots that all students care about is drinking

i like this idea

lahyde already said you can go get a stamp and then continue tailgating if you want

the only people who this new system should piss off are the ones that drink until the 2nd quarter, and then proceed to try to cram about 7 people into the SECOND row of section 7... that's just fucking ridiculous, and one of the reasons why we have problems with general admission right now. so i don't give a shit if they like the new system.

at least this way if they came and got a stamp and then tailgated into the 2nd quarter, there would be some space they could cram into. wouldn't be the 2nd row though. chances are that they won't be proactive enough to get a stamp and then return to tailgating though

well, this will eliminate over crowding, and event one will be shifting to a "spread people out" approach because they don't have to worry about fake tickets....so the cramming thing will be solved when event one grabs a guy and literally throws him out of the stadium for causing a disruption in the stands...

and I want passouts to be allowed before game time (they have been allowing them before, because I've used them)...but athletics is against that...I'll let you know if that changes
