i gotta go with bridget on this one. the people seeking asylum in canada had to put it all on the line. Bush just had his daddy pull strings at the CIA, and then flaked out on his committment after the military spent literally hundreds of thousands of dollars to train him. while he was busy snorting coke with republican campaigners
but whats really cool tho is how he had all the records destroyed once he became governor.
See, Dubya is smart.

"That old Beach Boys song, Bomb Iran ... bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb," the Vietnam War veteran warbled softly to the band's "Barbara Ann" when he was asked when the United States would send an "airmail message" to Iran.
The singing performance during a campaign stop on Wednesday in South Carolina drew chuckles from the audience and has already been viewed almost 11,000 times on the Internet video sharing site YouTube after being posted on Thursday." |

now, dont be trite.
McCain used to be independent from the GOP party machine. he was considered a moderate, espeically on social issues, and would often break ranks and cross the aisle to work with Democrats on some issue or other.
now he's spending his time sucking up to the religious right, as well as Bush's political friends who he used to avoid like the plague.
its a calculated plan to capture a "base" that he thinks is going to help him in his final bid for the white house. its not a stupid plan either. you dont win a republican primary by appealing to Democrats and Moderates. -- as he so painfully found out in 2000.
you were probably too young to remember much about it, but it was a brutal and vicious battle between McCain and Bush. there were a lot of hard feelings. it was one of the most negative attack campaigns (especially on the Bush side) seen in a GOP primary in recent memory.
and yeah. I would have voted for McCain over Gore in 2000 as well. but not now. for obvious reasons. But the problem for McCain is not going to be Dems and Moderates, but how is he going to appeal to the Right-Wing Fundamentalists, who know his borderline liberal social voting record. that and his advanced age.

Mr. McCain: (Long pause) “Ahhh. I think I support the president’s policy.”
Q: “So no contraception, no counseling on contraception. Just abstinence. Do you think contraceptives help stop the spread of HIV?”
Mr. McCain: (Long pause) “You’ve stumped me.”
Q: “I mean, I think you’d probably agree it probably does help stop it?”
Mr. McCain: (Laughs) “Are we on the Straight Talk express? I’m not informed enough on it. Let me find out. You know, I’m sure I’ve taken a position on it on the past. I have to find out what my position was. Brian, would you find out what my position is on contraception – I’m sure I’m opposed to government spending on it, I’m sure I support the president’s policies on it.”
Q: “But you would agree that condoms do stop the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Would you say: ‘No, we’re not going to distribute them,’ knowing that?”
Mr. McCain: (Twelve-second pause) “Get me Coburn’s thing, ask Weaver to get me Coburn’s paper that he just gave me in the last couple of days. I’ve never gotten into these issues before.”" |

Well, looks like McCain '08 is history before the end of July '07.
Our friends at AP tell us:
Quote : | "John McCain's campaign manager, chief strategist and other senior aides quit Tuesday, the second major staff shake-up in a week for the Republican presidential candidate who trails his rivals in money and polls.
In a statement, the Arizona senator said Terry Nelson and John Weaver offered their resignations, "which I accepted with regret and deep gratitude for their dedication, hard work and friendship."" |
