so how exactly is fleeing the country so as not to have to serve in any military capacity "more honorable" than serving in the national guard?

^Flaking on the National Guard is worse than make a very difficult moral decision to go to Canada.

i gotta go with bridget on this one. the people seeking asylum in canada had to put it all on the line. Bush just had his daddy pull strings at the CIA, and then flaked out on his committment after the military spent literally hundreds of thousands of dollars to train him. while he was busy snorting coke with republican campaigners

but whats really cool tho is how he had all the records destroyed once he became governor.

See, Dubya is smart.

for real.

he makes people think hes dumber than a bag of hammers, but he's really quite the crafty guy.

it wasnt a hack.

I dont think this is fair though. I mean the guy is 70, he cant be expected to understand something complicated like copyright infringement online.

I used to like him, but like 'em all, they have to start pleasing their party when the prez run comes. Our political system has a habit of changing once reasonable people into dumb asses.

"Republican 2008 presidential hopeful John McCain crooned the words "Bomb Iran" to a Beach Boys' tune in joking response to a question about any possible U.S. attack over Tehran's suspected nuclear weapons program.

"That old Beach Boys song, Bomb Iran ... bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb," the Vietnam War veteran warbled softly to the band's "Barbara Ann" when he was asked when the United States would send an "airmail message" to Iran.

The singing performance during a campaign stop on Wednesday in South Carolina drew chuckles from the audience and has already been viewed almost 11,000 times on the Internet video sharing site YouTube after being posted on Thursday."

Nothing says "I'm ready to be the commander in chief" like joking about a topic that will directly impact, and quite possibly end, the lives of hundreds or possibly thousands of American Soldiers.

reminds me when Bush spoofed himself about not finding any WMDs at that White House function a year or two ago.

he made like it was all "oopsie" that there were no WMDs found.

fucking pissed me off. still does.

"McCain defended the joke during a campaign stop in Nevada on Thursday.

"Please, I was talking to some of my old veterans friends," he told reporters in Las Vegas. "My response is, Lighten up and get a life."

Asked if his joke was insensitive, McCain said: "Insensitive to what? The Iranians?"

His campaign said the latest commercial is predictable.

"It comes as no surprise that America's most liberal interest group would attack John McCain's belief that we cannot allow Iran to destroy Israel," McCain spokesman Matt David said."

now, dont be trite.

McCain used to be independent from the GOP party machine. he was considered a moderate, espeically on social issues, and would often break ranks and cross the aisle to work with Democrats on some issue or other.

now he's spending his time sucking up to the religious right, as well as Bush's political friends who he used to avoid like the plague.

its a calculated plan to capture a "base" that he thinks is going to help him in his final bid for the white house. its not a stupid plan either. you dont win a republican primary by appealing to Democrats and Moderates. -- as he so painfully found out in 2000.

you were probably too young to remember much about it, but it was a brutal and vicious battle between McCain and Bush. there were a lot of hard feelings. it was one of the most negative attack campaigns (especially on the Bush side) seen in a GOP primary in recent memory.

and yeah. I would have voted for McCain over Gore in 2000 as well. but not now. for obvious reasons. But the problem for McCain is not going to be Dems and Moderates, but how is he going to appeal to the Right-Wing Fundamentalists, who know his borderline liberal social voting record. that and his advanced age.

I think if the US ever gets invaded and we look like we're going to lose, we should just go ahead and launch all of nuclear arsenal at the polar ice caps.

Ronald Reagan was an old sumbitch. he went senile so he couldnt be blamed for all the crimes committed at the end of his presidency.

McCain is older than Reagan.

...

but really, all i gotta say is that Obama would never allow his campaign website to get spoofed by a hotlinking hack.

times have changed too much to put old geezers in charge, whose technical skills peaked when they figured out how to program the VCR.

"Q: “What about grants for sex education in the United States? Should they include instructions about using contraceptives? Or should it be Bush’s policy, which is just abstinence?”

Mr. McCain: (Long pause) “Ahhh. I think I support the president’s policy.”

Q: “So no contraception, no counseling on contraception. Just abstinence. Do you think contraceptives help stop the spread of HIV?”

Mr. McCain: (Long pause) “You’ve stumped me.”

Q: “I mean, I think you’d probably agree it probably does help stop it?”

Mr. McCain: (Laughs) “Are we on the Straight Talk express? I’m not informed enough on it. Let me find out. You know, I’m sure I’ve taken a position on it on the past. I have to find out what my position was. Brian, would you find out what my position is on contraception – I’m sure I’m opposed to government spending on it, I’m sure I support the president’s policies on it.”

Q: “But you would agree that condoms do stop the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Would you say: ‘No, we’re not going to distribute them,’ knowing that?”

Mr. McCain: (Twelve-second pause) “Get me Coburn’s thing, ask Weaver to get me Coburn’s paper that he just gave me in the last couple of days. I’ve never gotten into these issues before.”"

Jesus Christ. This is fucking sad. And is he seriously asking his assistant what his stance is supposed to be on contraception? It's pathetic.

"It was McCain's first vote in six weeks, after 46 straight roll calls in which the Arizonan opted for presidential campaign duties instead of casting a vote in the Senate.

...

One cable news network reporter asked why McCain had returned for the vote, prompting a string of jokes from the Senator about wanting to see "old friends."

Asked by the cable producer about missing six consecutive weeks of votes, he deadpanned: "Oh my god, is that right? ... It's a nice day, the weather's nice." "

Well, looks like McCain '08 is history before the end of July '07.

Our friends at AP tell us:

Quote :
"John McCain's campaign manager, chief strategist and other senior aides quit Tuesday, the second major staff shake-up in a week for the Republican presidential candidate who trails his rivals in money and polls.

In a statement, the Arizona senator said Terry Nelson and John Weaver offered their resignations, "which I accepted with regret and deep gratitude for their dedication, hard work and friendship.""

The Straight Talk Express has left the road.
