Most of what I've read supports this explanation. So I'm not too concerned that people are actually going to vote under these extra registrations.

And let's be honest, the Dallas Cowboys should be registered to vote in every district in every state. They're America's team!!! I mean, TO's opinion alone is worth at least 100 votes...

"eyedrb, first off, we don't know that ACORN or any other organization has committed voter fraud (yet--they very well could be engaged in it right now). "

Bridget, You are aware that in vegas when authorities raided the ACORN office they found evidence.

State authorities on Tuesday raided an organization that registers low-income people to vote, alleging that its canvassers falsified forms with bogus names, fake addresses or famous personalities.

The secretary of state's office launched an investigation after noticing that names did not match addresses and that most members of the Dallas Cowboys appeared to be registering in Nevada to vote in November's general election.

"Some of these (forms) were facially fraudulent; we basically had the starting lineup for the Dallas Cowboys," Secretary of State Ross Miller said. "Tony Romo is not registered to vote in Nevada. Anyone trying to pose as Terrell Owens won't be able to cast a ballot."

Agents with the secretary of state and state attorney general offices served a search warrant on the headquarters of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, at 953 E. Sahara Ave. shortly after 9 a.m. They seized voter registration forms and computer databases to determine how many fake forms were submitted and identify employees who were responsible.

They also sought information regarding current and past employees and managers.

"We don't know how many (falsified forms) are here; there may be two, or there may be thousands," said Bob Walsh, spokesman for the secretary of state's office.

Registration fraud typically stems from workers striving to meet their daily quota of submitted voter forms, Miller said.

Obama GOTV Group and Voter Fraud

Quote :
"I don't think many of us expect perfection, but it would be encouraging if it didn't look so much like ACORN was facilitating fraud. Reports of fraudulent registrations by ACORN have come in for years, and they are legion in this cycle. There are accusations of fraud against ACORN in Connecticut, Wisconsin, and Nevada [and Ohio]. That's four states in less than one week.

Barack Obama formerly represented ACORN and taught classes for their future leaders. While he served on the Board of Directors of the Woods Foundation, that group received about $200,000 from ACORN. When he began his presidential run, Obama paid ACORN more than $800,000 to help 'Get Out the Vote'--although it was not originally reported that way to the FEC.

Shouldn't the practitioner of a 'new style' of politics be concerned about this lawbreaking?[/b]"

Is that what it comes down to? That Obama should speak out against ACORN? That would make you happy?

You have no evidence Obama contributed to this organization with the knowledge that they were engaging in voter fraud at that time. You have no evidence that Obama supports the actions of ACORN. You have no evidence that Obama's involvement with this organization has in any way affected his integrity as a person or his ability to run the country. You have a bunch of guilt-by-association horseshit.

eyedrb, from your own source:

Quote :

This is not cause for concern. If "Tony Romo" shows up in Nevada to vote, then we've got a problem.

Now, I agree it's incredibly irresponsible to pay just anybody to register voters. This is America...the logical end is cheating and fudging forms to meet quota by payday. Fat cats have been doing it for years to make their quarterlies look good to investors.

The fact that ACORN continued to operate with a model that would obviously inspire fake registrations does beg some questions. I mean, were they trying to get people excited about the election by making it look like tons of new voters had registered? What could possibly be the point of overseeing fake voter registrations? Maybe they thought it was worth it. If some employees get new and actual voters registered, it's okay if a couple bums end up registering the Dallas Cowboys.

And on the topic of hooksaw, I never called him a pedophile, but I've definitely commented on his perviness. Y'all remember all that shit he used to say about loving college because of the the hot, young coeds and shit? Eww, he did not pull it off. It was just creepy.

Thousands of voter registration forms faked, officials say

Quote :
"CROWN POINT, Indiana (CNN) -- More than 2,000 voter registration forms filed in northern Indiana's Lake County by a liberal activist group this week have turned out to be bogus, election officials said Thursday.

The group -- the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN -- already faces allegations of filing fraudulent voter registrations in Nevada and faces investigations in other states.

And in Lake County, home to the long-depressed steel town of Gary, the bipartisan Elections Board has stopped processing a stack of about 5,000 applications delivered just before the October 6 registration deadline after the first 2,100 turned out to be phony."

Quote :
"The forms included registrations submitted in the names of the dead -- and in one case, the name of a fast-food restaurant, Jimmy Johns. Sally LaSota, a Democrat on the board, called the forms fraudulent and said whoever filed them broke the law."

Quote :
"CNN was unable to reach ACORN officials in Gary and in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where the group's Indiana operation is based. Offices in both cities were empty when reporters visited."

I love it. We've got fucking football players being registered to vote by an organization and the Obamaniacs are over here saying "it's just an allegation..." No, it's pretty much a fucking FACT now.

And, for the record, 6 degrees to Kevin Bacon is one thing. Hiring ACORN for GOTV is another. As is giving money to them across the years from various groups over whose finances you have control. Get your fucking heads out of Obama's ass for five seconds

This is such a bunch of shit. It's just an excuse for voter suppression. This happens in October every 4 years, we all know the drill - cry fraud while it covers for an excuse to purge millions of voters from vote rolls.

Remember that ACORN can't NOT turn in bogus applications, folks. The applications are legal documents, no matter who the fuck brings them in, and by the way, ACORN is required by law to turn them in no matter what. ACORN flags incomplete, problematic, or suspicious cards when they do turn them in, but quite often the warnings are ignored by voter officials.

I mean, do you realize that voter fraud by individuals is extremely rare, and incredibly difficult? There has never been a single proven case of anyone, anywhere, casting an illegal vote as a result of a phony voter registration, ever.

Pretty much. While I'd love for ACORN bosses to calm down, I can't see that happening in our competitive culture. Perhaps they should change their model, but remember that they do register folks to vote. I registered many people myself. I never faked forms.

^^ Yeah, people don't realize it but they'd actually have been in more trouble for throwing away the forms their ex-con employees filled out. If you want to destroy a voter registration group, you give them massive numbers of fake voter registrations. It'll overwhelm their ability to effectively mark them as suspicious or incomplete and you'll get these kinds of stories.

Probably wasn't anything so sneaky though- just laziness and stupidity on their part and on the part of their employees. Registering such obviously faked forms doesn't get the democrats anything unless "Jimmy Johns" shows up and votes. So, were this to go uncaught then really the benefit to the democrats is what? Lower voter turnout than expected since the thousands of fake people didn't show up? The argument could be made that the republicans would clearly benefit from this scandal and could have easily submitted the faked registrations to accomplish it. Still, conspiracy theories are often just a trick your mind plays on you when it realizes you aren't in control of things. There was a study recently that showed that- pretty interesting stuff.

For the record, I even registered some Republicans to vote. As far I know, nobody at the office destroyed these forms.

Also, a few people register repeatedly simply because they're worried about slipping through the cracks.

Well, reading the article:

Quote :
"McCain joined the board of the U.S. Council soon after Singlaub founded it in McCain’s adopted hometown of Phoenix in November 1981 as the U.S. branch of the World Anti-Communist League. The league billed itself as a supporter of “pro-Democratic resistance movements fighting communist totalitarianism,” but it had also been branded by critics as a haven for extremists, racists and anti-Semites."

...
Quote :
"But McCain campaign spokesman Brian Rogers told Politico that McCain notified the group of his intent to leave the board in September 1984 because “questions were raised about its activities.”
"

He was on the board for 3 years, then he supposedly decided he didn't like their activities, so he left. I don't hold it against him, and this is what I'm trying to tell you: if you want to start singling out Obama for knowing and working with a guy who was a problem 40 years prior, you should expect for people to single out McCain for much more, since he was in government so much longer.

It was a stupid, stupid move on the part of the McCain campaign, but then again, they've made so many stupid moves that it's not surprising.

I can see how that makes sense, but I'm generally disappointed in politicians who weren't radicals at some point. If you're passionate and really wanted to change the world- and also young- it's hard not to be a radical for a little while at least. Passion is generally cooled with experience and age; someone who is dispassionate in youth is going to be dead inside long before they're in the ground.

Here's a pretty good look at ACORN and what has become The New "Welfare Queens" of political debate:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/10/the_new_welfare_queens.html

And a step-by-step refutation of the whole "CRA caused this" thing that has spilled over from Michelle Malkin-like blogs into serious debate:

http://ourfuture.org/blog-entry/2008094030/firing-back-cra-strikeoutexcuse-diversionstrikeout-libel

I tried to find a better non-blog source but this thread is already cluttered with National Review and Weekly Standard bloggings so I figured it was ok. Then again, all media that doesn't explicitly say "this is conservative media" is part of the grand left-wing conspiracy, right?

Fraud suspected in voter sign-up
ACORN, a grass-roots organization, submitted the forms to the Durham election board
Published: Oct 10, 2008 12:30 AM

Quote :
"DURHAM - State Board of Elections officials are trying to determine whether about 100 voter registration forms submitted by a local chapter of a national grassroots organization to the Durham County Board of Elections are fraudulent.

Similar accusations have been lodged across the country against the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, which goes by the name ACORN. In Durham, the claims were made last month after the group submitted about 5,000 voter registration forms to the county board of elections.

'All of a sudden, I started seeing the same names over and over again,' said Mike Ashe, county elections director. He said some forms had similar names but different addresses or dates of birth."
