Agreed. It would be much more damning if the GOP was still riding their “family values” plank, but that’s been jettisoned (somewhat) since Trump took over. Although I do think it would be fair to look up his past statements on DADT, DOMA, etc.

Pretty damn good chance all the rumblings are fake anyway.

It would put a lot of conservatives who support him in an awkward position. Do they support him? Or do they support their version of family values?

Also, why does it matter if he's kept it a secret all this time? Calling that shady is basically calling out everyone afraid to come out of the closet. You can call him a hypocrite sure, but staying in the closet, I wouldn't consider that shady.

I went searching for some shitty things Graham had said about LGBTQ folks Or sex workers and, surprisingly, he was way less shitty about those issues than I thought. There are some pretty terrible quotes about DOMA from the mid-2000s where he compared gay marriage to polygamy multiple times, but the quotes I found don’t hold a candle to the shitty stuff other parts of the GOP have said.

Weaponizing his gayness against him knowing his voters are homophobic is a dirty, immoral, and homophobic tactic itself. The GOP would 100% do it if the tracks are turned, but it would be massively hypocritical for any democratic group to do this.

It’s like how Jesse helms made fun of galofinakis’ name or when gopers liked to call Obama by his middle name.

On the flip side Graham hiding this aspect of himself hurts gay people in his district and it helps perpetuate homophobia
