It's a placebo. Even if you import water from NY, you can't have NY tasting pizza in a different states. It's a mental game.

And then there's the whole coal-fired oven thing. But you CAN do better than NYC pizza if you try.

So I'm guessing the top 3 sub places around NCSU are:

1 - Subconscious
2 - Sadlacks
3 - Jimmy Johns

Has anybody else noticed how stingy Jersey Mikes has become? The last two times i have been there they have only put two thin slices of meat on each half of the sub and they now only have like 6-8 toppings to put on it. I went to two locations and they were both like this.

+1 for Sadlacks just because you'll occasionally see a bum fight there.

You goddamn southerners. Stick to your BBQ and leave the subs and hoagies to us up north.

is Village Deli still any good? I used to love their sandwiches years ago.

I will also always be partial to the size: quality ratio of a Jersey Mike's sub. I worked there on and off in high school, and ate so many free subs. It was amazing.

Damn that looks good blas where is it from?

Which wich is good and cheap.... But not great.... Not even jersey mikes or jimmy johns good for that matter. I mean between trips to NYC (catz) and dean & deluca in Charlotte .... I just don't know of anyone that makes a great sandwich here with things like in house meats or fresh mozzarella (soft).

i also used to have the jersey mikes sub club stamp at my house, and i would stamp tons of those cards and give them to friends to use. ah high school glory days. when i could eat an entire large jersey mikes sub for lunch and dinner and not gain a pound of body fat.

Whichwich is decent and cheap. It's weird but I've never been to Sub Conscious.

What sub shop uses the most meat? It sucks to get a turkey sub that's mostly bread and lettuce but very little meat.

The one near Cary Towne Center still piles on the meat. Or at least they did six months ago when I could still eat subs

I've been to the NY Deli in Mission Valley. Quality ingredients, reasonably tasty...but not *that* good. Bread isn't that good either. I'd imagine Neomonde makes some decent sub rolls...

Indeed they do. One of the companies we use for lunch catering uses Neomonde bread for their sandwiches and subs. I can't remember which one though.

I really like Which Which. The customization options mean you can get it exactly how you want it. Bread isn't anything special though.

I second the which which suggestion, excellent montecristos.

I also enjoy Jason's Deli in Crossroads and McCallisters in North Hills.

Has anyone been to Community Deli on Oberlin? Been thinking about going sometime. I know it's not exactly a sub sandwich shop, I think.

not the best sub around by any stretch, but before we moved offices I went to the new Penn Station up in Morrisville a few times and was never disappointed

Best sub bread ever! Soft yet tough, hard to describe the deliciousness.

And yes, location is vital. Bread rises and tastes different when made in different locations. I've heard this company tried to open another location with no success on repeating their famous sub rolls.

I had the American combo with regular fries. The bread was awesome, it was a substantial sandwich iirc, and the fries were perfectly fried.

My favorite part of this thread was GeniuSxBoY getting schooled for acting like a know it all.

My least favorite part of this thread was every post by GeniuSxBoY, why don't you go start a sub shop that fails and then cry about it

I personally think the best sandwich made in Raleigh is the one you make for yourself at home.
