^ janking?

Two news items.

First, Paul will be on Jay Leno tonight.

Second, funny note on one supporter at a campaign stop:

Quote :
"Ron Paul does not have a security detail. The closest thing is a retired customs inspector who acts as Paul's driver and body man on the road.

So, it was a little odd to see an enormous -- truly, a well-muscled giant -- standing behind Paul in a red polo shirt, and looking menacing when the Texas congressman was mobbed by supporters after a speech to a meeting of the Liberty Forum in Nashua, N.H., today.

Turns out, it was not an addition to the small cadre of family and staff that travel with Paul, but a new supporter: Glen Jacobs, aka "Kane" from the WWE. Jacobs was appearing at the Liberty Forum, independent of Paul, but has endorsed the congressman's bid for the Republican presidential nomination.

It is unclear if Kane, who has made a career of looking menacing, meant to do so today, but it appeared like it would hurt if he body slammed you as he lumbered behind Paul, among supporters.

Appearances can be deceiving, however. When asked by reporters earlier if he ended up campaigning for Paul, would he ask people for their vote "nicely?" Jacobs said that "Libertarians oppose the use of force, of course." Asked how that jives with his wrestling career, Kane said that it's different because, "You know, the other guy steps in the ring with you."
"

Wow.. I sure bet that made Hannity feel better about Ron Paul.

Now for this video, Dr. Paul has not dyed his hair brown and had plastic sugery to make himself look younger.
It's just him being interviewed in 1988 ...offering the same opinions as he offers today. Rather refreshing for a politician if you ask me.

I think it's ironic... all the years of democrat bashing by Fox and it's republicans that run them down and hassle them.

^^ That's not necessarily a good thing. It could indicate that he dogmatically sticks to ideas, regardless of changing circumstances of evidence.

Although after viewing the video, he doesn't really espouse any principles that aren't really timeless.

I like this idea of pro wrestler and action fighter supports for candidates. In the future we could replace the primary system with a fight between representatives for the candidates. I see Ron Paul taking Huckabee in the first round.

Great stuff there.

Can't wait for the day another great communicator arrives on the scene to spread the message of liberty and small gov't.

It's almost comical that every presidency seems to have the same complaints about taxes, spending, and debt, and yet nothing seems to change, even though the parties complaining about it switch sides.

It's not that comical, though.

Wonder where we'd be if things had gone the other way in '64...

Quote :
"Although Goldwater had been successful in rallying conservatives, his charisma seemed to be inadequate for the general election. Shortly before the Republican Convention, he had alienated most Republicans by his vote against the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which Johnson championed and signed into law. The Johnson camp used this to paint Goldwater as a racist. Goldwater argued that it was a matter for the individual states rather than federal legislation."

If Rockefeller defeated Goldwater in '64, the Republicans would still be a primarily northern liberal party and the Democrats would still be a primarily southern conservative party.

^^^ his arguments against it are due to his being a libertarian and Constitutionalist.

1. the Fed is a means of the gov't influencing the free market
2. there is no explicit provision for such a system in the Constitution

i don't disagree with it, but that's the argument against it

ok so the federal reserve is where they keep all the gold that backs up the money right?

if so, where does that gold go if they got rid of the reserve

no...fort knox is where they keep the gold

but gold doesn't back up the money anymore

the Fed basically is the master lending agency, and therefore sets interest rates for money being borrowed

If money has to be borrowed for it to be created then how is the US going to ever pay back the interest on the debt?

It wasn't David Frum saying that perchance, was he? Famous neo-conservative and adviser to Rudy Guiliani? (Because was on the show not too long ago, and he had unkind words about Ron Paul - but I don't know if it was the same episode you saw.)

yeah he was an idiot. iirc, he basically said paul was a radical nutjob with completely stupid ideas, and people "turn to stupid ideas like that in desperate times like this" or something to that effect.

i completely stopped taking him seriously when i heard he advises 9/11-man.

I heard Faux News banned Ron Paul from their republican candidate debate. I guess Mr. Paul is a threat to the "status quo" for the current republican platform and the powers at be want to suppress his position from continuing its wild fire spread among the grassroots republican voters.

Discussing Ron Paul on the streets of New Hampshire....

http://reason.tv/roughcut/show/226.html

I'm so hopeful seeing the younger generation picking up the torch of limited gov't.

If anything...Paul could be a stone tossed into the winding river of gov't..spreading ripples of liberty to all points.
