I am impressed that they had the guts to go this route with their music considering they are on fucking VICTORY. Kudos."

Agreed.

My nomination: Kanye West - Late Registration

For future reference, there is a reason why obscure bands are obscure in the first place--because they suck and nobody likes them. In fact, if anyone on here likes bands that "only do vinyl" then it is safe to say their musical tastes suck as well.

Late Registration fucking sucks. It doesn't hold a candle to The College Dropout.

not true, every major artist you know of today at some point was unknown and obscure
also a lot of the artists who are the most respected and popular today probably at one point had their music considered weird and too different

a lot of these artists listed are newer, maybe their independent and don't have a music label forcing radio stations to play their music, and maybe they are just reaching the tipping point where they change from obscure to mainstream

why am i even bothering with this post, if this isn't obvious to you know then it probably will never be

Im gonna have to add Antony And The Johnsons and Animal Collective to my list. I can't believe I only found about them (Antony that is) a month ago. And Feels is EASILY my favorite cover art of the year:

Do you honestly believe musical quality is a factor in a band making it to the top in the music industry?

Propagandhi - Potemkin City Limits

I just got it last night, and I've been waiting on the damn thing for 4.5 years. It wins sheerly
based on that, never mind the technical, artistic and political merits of the album.

Sufjan Stevens - Illinois.

Biggie's new collabo album might be a close second

judging from the two songs that have leaked

It's been a pretty weak year for me so far--there have been a few really good albums but nothing all that outstanding.

Favorite so far:

My Morning Jacket - Z

Doesn't stand up to It Still Moves, but an okay MMJ album is still better than most music out there.

i only listened to that big business album once, and i was pretty dissapointed. i meant to give it another shot, but never did. a bunch of people told me i'd love it. i don't know if anything can stand up to "suplex" though.
