i mean if you've never been somewhere its kinda hard to judge the people who actually go there, don't you think?

i would not label the rockford as a hipster place. like. at all.

THEY SERVE MEAT OKAY

There was definitely a hipster element to Rockford, but it's far from a "hive". Every restaurant has a certain hipster element to it though, for the most part. Especially if you look in the kitchen.

Yeah, and you can also be surrounded by the types of people that go to the Goat. If I wanted to hang out with middle aged white trash I'd go back to Carteret County.

^^to be fair, and this is solely judging on your name, it could be because you're black.

i mean, i've never seen a black person in the rockford.

just a random thought i had....

Fly did good business but relocated one block over, which makes me think that the rent there is absurdly high.

Catch 22 shut down and almost relocated for the same reason.

The Rockford didn't go through any visible symptoms of a failing bar (ex: advertising, nightly specials, or even putting a sign (or even a sandwich board) out front)

Has anyone considered that the owner has pocketed a good amount of cash via the restaurant and leasing the lower spaces and is now expanding the Rockford into a two level eatery/bar? You'd think that a well known place like that would at least announce a closing date and then rake in the cash as people went there 'one last time'. The only real threat of announcing your closing is the possibility that you staff will walk and maybe steal shit.

The only other possibilities that I can think of are
1) the owner got tired of the business (in which case he could advertise closing the spot and maybe sell it and still collect rent)
2) incredible financial fuck ups
3) poor business (doesn't sound likely)
4) the city came in and told him to conform to fire code by putting in sprinklers and handicap access (he could forget putting in elevators if he expanded to the first floor, which is handicap accessible)

BTW, I've never seen much business at Tesora, which occupies the other half of the first floor.

anyways, this has been random speculation by Mr. Joshua.

I've never heard of it and I've lived in Raleigh for 15 years. And generally I don't eat at chains since their food is salty as hell

I'm kind of surprised I hadn't heard of it since I liked going to Helios for lunch sometimes.

Sometimes it's nice to hang out with middle-aged white trash because it's cheap entertainment ... and a significant ego boost.

Plus, DOLLAR MYSTERY DRINK NIGHT FTW!

With Rockford closing, Hot Point IMO becomes the undisputed champ in the Raleigh area. That place fucking rules. Their pizzas are really good too.

This makes me imagine that, now, the Kings restaurant (replacing Martin St. Pizza) will just be New Rockford, with the same staff and menu.

But this is probably just wishful thinking.

I told my friend who works in Raleigh Times' Kitchen that an ABC or Mission-Style Burrito special this week would be cool.

Somebody on New Raleigh, i think, put it best:

If all these people who were like: "OH I WISH I HAD TRIED IT or I WISH I HAD GONE THERE MORE" actually fucking went there and spent their money....it wouldn't be closed.

That or the fucker who owned the place shouldn't have been such a bitchweed about his finances.
