Well in reality, i wouldn't really classify Lilly's staff as hippies either. Maybe one or two of them, but the vast majority are neither hippies or hipsters. They're just restaurant folk. They're just ... different.

Yuppies are like the polar opposites of hipsters. "Rich" business-savvy twenty-somethings as opposed to "poor" anti-corporate twenty-somethings.

Hipsters tend to oppose convention and what they see as the established order to the point of being ridiculous. Yuppies devote themselves to convention and the established order to the point of being ridiculous.

I'm going to have to try Frank's, though a quick google search shows it to be out on New Bern Ave, which is a place in Raleigh I'd likely never ever be passing through.

I used to go to Lilly's a lot since my girlfriend lived right near there and we'd walk down. It was never one of my favorite places, but to each his own.

That whole "NY and Chicago people are the only ones that know pizza" thing is absolutely absurd. It is an Italian dish, with roots in Greece. If you want large thin crust, then yes, that is typically considered NY style, or if you want deep dish, yes, you would normally order a "chicago style pizza." But to say that you have to be from there to know anything about one of the most popular dishes in the world is just ignorant

As for Lily's- I've actually never had their pizza, but I love their calzones

And to whoever had said Vic's- I love their food, but I can't get the pizza there when the pasta dishes are available...

I miss the Chicken & Liver and Fried Egg pizzas at the Rockwood Filling station in Durham. I've since moved on to the Spicy Hawaiian at Pop's Backdoor.

As for Raleigh, I always liked the Five Points at Lilly's and Bella Monica's flatbreads.

dont know if its the best, but the biggest slices that I've ever seen in Raleigh are at Schiano's in Leesville Town Center. A slice there is about the size of a medium pizza at one of the chain restaurants

they have good sauce and sausage as well

Insofar as NY style pizza, I'd say Vincent's is pretty decent (Tony's and Assagio's aren't too shabby either)
