I was wondering about that too. Seems really weird to play the same team at home back-to-back. When I first saw it I thought it was a scheduling mistake.

It's another one of the things they are trying this year to reduce travel, and strengthen rivalries.

""You couldn't say he was trying to break my neck," Cole said. "You could say it was a bad move on his part not to let up, to finish the hit the way he did. Unfortunately, the consequences from the league really are not that bad. Three games for him are like a holiday, three games without going out there and getting his lunch handed to him by the other teams in the league. Sounds like a pretty good tradeoff to me.""

nice burn -- and i am a penguins fan

actually though, i am pissed that orpik made the hit and more pissed that he's been a dick about it. if the pens don't try to field a winning team, and/or move from the burgh, i don't know if the canes won't replace the pens in my book. it's been downhill ever since kasparaitis beat hasek to win the playoff series in like 99, and the management doesn't seem too interested in actually fielding a team. the playing field was forcibly leveled before this season and for some reason they FORGOT TO GET ANY DEFENSEMEN other than gonchar, who is not truly a defensive defenseman, and sucks this year anyway.

maybe malkin will help next year. . . always "wait till next year". . .

"Rick Orlemanski (Cary, NC): What do think of the 'Canes acquiring Recchi? Obviously, the ownership and management are very serious about going for the Cup.

SportsNation Barry Melrose: (3:41 PM ET ) Without a doubt. They know they have a good team. Recchi was insurance for Cole. If Cole can play, you've added another veteran forward who's won the Cup. I think Carolina handled the deadline better than anyone else.

Brian (jersey): now that the deadline has come and gone who is the strongest tean in the east

SportsNation Barry Melrose: (3:42 PM ET ) I think right now Carolina is the best team. They just lost two games in the shootout, but they have a number of scorers and a number of guys that can play defense. I think they're better than Ottawa.

if people in this thread were to bet, which round of the playoffs do you think the canes will make it to?

considering I can't remember too many times we've lost 2 in a row, I think we have a good chance to win it all. But being a state fan and assuming I am cursed in sports, we'll make it to the 2nd round.

i have a hunch he will be in the lineup tonight, due to the fact he waived his NTC he more than likely was ready to leave. Roloson played for the Oil last night, so who knows

Josh, you are extremely dumb. Even if looking at one stat WERE some type of measure of a player's worth... 24 goals is only 6 less than cole had... would you say Cole wasn't an impact player on the canes? How about Brind'amour? He has exactly 24 goals...

And let's not forget Recchi's goals came on the freaking penguins...

Let's also ignore the intangibles he brings to our team like veteran leadership and playoff experience (2 cups).

On another note, i believe the canes will make it at least to the conference finals, hopefully the stanley cup. I think we have a legit shot at winning it all.

Does anyone have an animated hurricane flag image?

^im not saying he isnt GOOD

notice i said, hes nothing HUGE

id say we certaintly will make it to the conference finals, it will really depend on who we play. facing ottawa would not be good for us imo.

then, tell me, what would be huge? For a trade deadline deal, its pretty big, acquiring a franchise player is huge, the addition of a veteran that lends more credibility to a team's fire power is a solid and I think great addition

Initially, I heard that he would be playing in Saturday's game. Then, on the 11 o'clock news last night, NBC-17 said that he was joining the team today (Friday) but his status for tonight's game was unknown. I flipped over to WTVD and their sportscaster said that he would be playing in tonight's game. I'd love to see him play both Friday and Saturday (anyone know what # he'll be wearing?)
