I'm seeing the Panthers picking 8th or 9th. The way things stand now, there's probably no way Kalil, Claiborne, or Blackmon fall to them. It's possible they can trade down with a team who wants a guy like Trent Richardson.

We already have a starting qb locked in cheap so if we locked in a starting DE cheap too we'd have a nice salary cap advantage on other teams.

The Panthers ended the season with the most improved offense of the past 20 years. Only the '98-'99 Raiders are even in the ballpark and it's not even close.

We also had the #1 rushing offense in the past 20 years ahead of the 2000 Rams and 2002 Chiefs.

That's pretty damn impressive. With even an average defense next year we could be Super Bowl contenders if the offense maintains or improves.

I get worried Cam might regress because I've seen it happen to so many 2nd year starting QB's, particularly running ones (Vick, Kordell, VY, Freeman, etc). But none of those guys were nearly as good of passers as Newton and honestly I think Cam could have run a lot more if we had more on the line this year.

probably already stated, but the panthers need to keep the staff together. it looks like Rob Chudzinski will interview for some HC positions. That be a big blow and could hurt cam's development.

Anyone else think we should take advantage Smith's "resurgent" season and try to peddle him for picks? I can't really think of any other tradeable assets on our team (maybe Gamble?), and we need all the picks we can get.

As for the draft, I say best available regardless of position (other than QB) in the first round then defense the rest of the way, especially DLine. I'm not terribly worried about Newton regressing, the guy actually has poise in the pocket and can read defenses. All signs point to him getting better, much better.

Brees is 33 so he probably only has a few great seasons left in him. The Saints waffle between good to very good because their defense is typically so bad.

Matt Ryan was a top ten QB this year, but so were Eli, Romo, and (arguably) Rivers and those teams were all basically .500

There's no reason the Panthers can't compete with those teams within the next two years and potentially next year.


I'd keep Steve Smith, he was just too ridiculous this year. I don't think we'd get enough value for him. Our passing game falls off dramatically without him stretching the field and making plays.
