Can Warren rebound? We are overrated if we don't have a 3rd rebounder. Howell and Leslie are still going to be in foul trouble every game and once they go out we could get dominated on the glass.

From what I've gathered, rebounding isn't Warren's strong suit. However, Brown rebounds pretty well for a guard.

Our starting five is a ridiculously solid rebounding team. Howell is one of the tops in the conference as is Leslie. Brown is probably the top rebounding PG. Wood is a shitty rebounder, but he's still tall. Warren is a good rebounder and has good size for a SF...same goes for Purvis as a SG.

We'll drop a little bit when Vandy and TDT come in...but not much. And our guards will make up for some of that disparity.

I'm not worried about our rebounding.

Maybe howell and leslie will just get all the calls in the acc this year since we are the favorite?

if not, we will not be winning the acc regular. and i wouldn't be surprised if we were 3rd for that single reason.

1. start off well
2. howell/leslie get in foul trouble
3. everybody stops playing defense to avoid fouling
4. howell/leslie spend less time on court so we lose rebounding and interior offense
5. game over

ncaa tourney refs are a lot more lax so we were able to get games without major foul trouble. in fact, gtown lost because of their foul trouble.

I don't have faith in either TDT or Vandy contributing quality minutes this year. Maybe next year one or both of them will be able to step in and provide 15 minutes per game without hurting the team. But based on what we've seen so far from them, it would be foolish to expect anything.

Warren is gonna have to get used to playing in the post. I know he prefers the wing, but he'll have to be our first post player off the bench by default, because Vandy and TDT aren't ready. Next year, he'll probably have to start at the 4 unless we somehow sign Randle. Warren is definitely built to play inside at the college level. The question is whether he has the mentality to bang down low and play physical defense.

If you're overseas with a decent internet connection and want to watch the games you can sign up for http://www.espnplayer.com. For $150.00 you get a year of college football and basketball, and just about all the games (except maybe the Fox Sports ones) will be shown. This is my second year using it in Israel and it's definitely been worth it if you like college football and basketball.

I doubt we'll use them for more than 5-10 min/game after December.

^^ next year we won't have a choice w/ TDT and Vandy. One of them has a good shot at starting.

I think we'll end up starting Warren at the 4 and Anya at the 5.

Hopefully Anya will be that good, but I think it's pretty optimistic to expect him to start over a junior or senior. But it could happen. Let's wait and see.

[Edited on November 8, 2012 at 11:26 AM. Reason : also, hopefully Anya will commit to us]

The thing about TDT and Vandy getting minutes is that all they have to do is rebound and play defense. We don't need them to score. We actually relied on Painter (to a certain extent) to be able to hit that 17-foot jumper and get a few buckets in the paint last year. We lost three below average offensive players (AJ, Painter, and CJW...CJ being average by his senior year) and replaced them with two scorers (Warren and Purvis) and a big time facilitator (Lewis).

So TDT and Vandy just need to get in there and guard big men and rebound. Anything additional (putbacks from Vandy and an occasional wide open three by TDT) is icing on the fucking cake.

We don't need production out of these guys....we just need bodies to rest CJ and Howell or when they get in foul trouble.

Alabama's defense under Gott was bad too, even when they were ranked highly. I'm hoping and expecting his assistant coaches now to help out with that.

Despite getting picked to win the ACC by 14 of the 21 "experts," not a single one has us in the Final Four. I think this is interesting mainly as a gauge for where to set expectations. As I see it, a successful season would be to either win the ACC regular season or tournament, get a top 3 national seed and get back to the Sweet 16. I'm hoping for more, but if we're around there, I think we're on the right track.

http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/66564/wooden-award-preseason-top-50-unveiled

We've got two Wooden Award Preseason top 50. There's every reason to expect a regular season and/or acc tourney banner. Don't forget the tourney is back in Greensboro this year too. If we end up a one or two seed our fans are gonna turn the coliseum into a sea of red.

guys, it's okay to be disappointed by the season. you don't have to set your hopes so low that you're guaranteed to be satisfied. jesus.

i mean, when lorenzo brown comes out and says that he thinks about nothing but winning a national title, it makes me really want to win a national title.

^^^

The most important thing for our program is that we continue to move forward. Win consistently, avoid bad losses, show we can beat UNC/Duke, contend for the ACC title and advance in the NCAA tournament. Those aren't low expectations. If we fall short of these, then the momentum for our program is lost and we're back middle of the ACC. If we can accomplish these things, the foundation is set for multiple years of success, that's why this is where I'm setting my expectations. Of course you want to win a national title. That's the goal and it's certainly possible. But to expect it? There's a difference between what you hope for and what you expect.

Anyone want to swap two tickets to the UNCA game (thanksgiving Friday) for two tickets and parking pass to Norfolk State 12/15? Works better for my holiday plans and figured another season ticket holder may have a thanksgiving conflict.
