we trampled on JDavis, then Stone, and then Evans, all before we dealt with the common denominator.

the new regime will likely show that it was not the fault of the QB's all along...

i suggest we stop bashing Evans for the time being

we didn't treat evans nearly as bad as he deserved post-fsu. he had better be back to 3rd string next year, though.

N.C. State in holding pattern
by: Craig Haubert
posted: Monday, November 27, 2006 | Print Entry
filed under: N.C. State Wolfpack, Michigan State Spartans

It's the time of year when malls are packed with holiday shoppers and many college coaches receive pink slips. While much of the college football regular season has come to an end, many coaches already have found themselves fired.

No conference this year may experience more carnage, though, than the ACC. Sunday night, the conference that saw many teams underachieve in 2006 saw its third coach sent packing. Following North Carolina and Miami, N.C. State fired alum Chuck Amato after a 3-9 season and a last-place finish in the ACC Atlantic.

With the dismissal of Amato, the Wolfpack will see their recruiting go into a holding pattern until they can replace him. At the time of Amato's firing, N.C. State had 15 verbal commitments in the 2007 class, a group with some quality talent -- WR Jay Smith out of Norfolk, Va. and DE Linwan Euwell (Pinetops, N.C./Southwest Edgecombe), to name two -- but no players ranked among the ESPN 150.

While the Tar Heels have not fared much better on the field, they recently have outdone N.C. State in recruiting. John Bunting left a 2007 class for Butch Davis that has three ESPN 150 players. While N.C. State will want to see more wins on the field, they will also need to see a rise in their recruiting.

Time will be ticking to replace Amato and try and make a late run at some top remaining prospects. In the past, Amato showed the ability to identify talent, but the new coach will need to work hard and fast to generate interest in N.C. State for the 2007 class. Right now, there doesn't seem to be much interest in the school from top prospects.

The Wolfpack have commitments from some players who will interest other schools, and without a head coach, they could lose some commitments. They did make a quick decision to part ways with Amato, though, and if they can quickly replace him with a quality hire, N.C. State should not take too severe a blow in recruiting. Naturally though, the longer the Wolfpack goes without a coach, the harder it will be for them to have much success with this year's class.

Amato's firing not only will have an effect on recruiting, it also will be a blow to fans of the Amato cartoons on the Raleigh News & Observer web site, like the classic "Chuck Dynamite".

taking appropriate time in getting a solid coach is a worthwhile tradeoff for a below average recruiting season

^we were fucking 51st, we were below average already

I would trade the whole fucking class in for a great coach, people need to stop worrying about recruiting, anytime you fire a coach, some are going to leave, change committment, you think that really scares Alabama, Miami, Mich. State, etc.....hell no, they realize that a solid head coach is the main goal, and the players will follow

One bad recruiting class isnt going to kill this football team, just like one great recruiting class isnt going to win you a championship. I'm with WolfMiami

People on this board seem to have wet dreams over 4* - 5* players. It doesn't matter if you don't do anything with them and develop them

Plus, its not like we've been tearing it up with Chuck's recruits the past 4 years.

It depends on what your definition of bad is though. Right now we have a solid TE, WR, and a few average OL coming in and that's about it. Take UVA for example, they have excellent recruiting classes every year and they can barely keep their heads above water. You have to have kids in there to coach no matter what.

According to Pack Pride, Dominique Ellis is still committed to State. That's a good thing too. He won defensive MVP in the Shrine Bowl (see pic).

One of BC recruits is following OBrien to State:

Quote :
"Tom O'Brien's first recruit as N.C. State's coach is a familiar one: Jeff Rieskamp from Cincinnati Elder High.
A 6-foot-4, 235-pound defensive end and an all-state selection in Ohio after the 2006 season, Rieskamp committed to Boston College when O'Brien was there.

But when O'Brien took much of the BC staff with him to State, Rieskamp became interested in the Wolfpack.

"The people I committed to are now at State," said Rieskamp, who was recruited at BC by line coach Don Horton, now at NCSU.

"I didn't know the staff at Boston College anymore."

Rieskamp, who made 56 tackles and had nine sacks for Elder's 6-4 team, anticipates playing defensive end at State.

"The facility is unbelievable," he said Wednesday. "I really liked the players, and the coaches are great. ... The atmosphere there let me know this was the place for me."

The verbal commitment isn't binding on Rieskamp or State. He is expected to sign a national letter of intent on Feb. 7.

That RB we just got had 0 stars, but his list of colleges interested in him was VERY impressive.

List included OSU, Michigan, and WVU.

yea i just noticed that

and with Michigans history of RBs not to mention the WVU system that would make TA be the #1 pick

this could shape up to be an extremely nice class, hope our O line commits are worth their schollys

^ byers also said simms really liked it here o.O

every interview i've read with a recruit after a visit (this applies to basketball too, actually) is that their visit was great. they all seemed to love the coaching staff, facilities, and guys already on the team. a few weekends ago, IIRC, we had 9 recruits visit, 6 confirmed their commitments and the other 3 who were previously uncommitted committed to us on the spot.

touché TOB.

How about we let this Culliver thing go.....he's not coming here.

We have a pretty good WR in Jay Smith too you know

^agreed, i'm not to concerned with the WR position......we have good players at that position(most of them are still young) and if Geron James would get his act together then he could definitely contribute (IF we can establish a half decent QB to get these guys the ball)

Simms comitted to Louisville officially.

I would've liked to get him even though his arm strength isn't as good as his brother/Dad. No big deal though since we have some QB depth to sort through in any case... But a 4* QB is never a bad thing [unless his name is Marcus Stone]
