i've thought about it since its cheaper than a normal new game, but i already have the bigs, and it seems the biggest advantage to power pros is stat keeping and franchise modes, which dont really matter to me much with a baseball game.

IGN reports on a recent article from The Nikkei Business Daily. After speaking to a number of software houses on the future of the Wii, The Business Daily reveals that several developers, preferring to stay anonymous, expressed concerns over the longevity of the system, and were hesitant to develop games in the event of the Wii's popularity dropping suddenly.

Several houses perceive the motion-sensing Wii as a fad, and believe its success to be ending shortly. This could possibly be in response to the Wii's sales in Japan, which The Nikkei Business Daily reports are at their lowest point since late last year. Several developers also blamed Nintendo for their hesitancy, claiming that the company puts third-party developers at a disadvantage while ensuring the success of first-party titles. It remains to be seen if any of this Wii fear is justifiable, although a lack of third-party confidence is never a good sign for a console manufacturer.

Sales probably aren't as high in Japan because everyone already has one. And its no wonder that the third party companies aren't doing as well, all the third party games (Except maybe 1 or 2) Wii games are either mini-game compilations, are just plain horrible, or both. And once Smash comes out (February ), the Wii will be a lot more "secured" in the market.

^yeah, really.

I'd buy more 3rd-party titles on the Wii if developers actually made decent games. I'm not going to buy crap just because it's on the shelf.

The problem it seems with the third party developers is that they just take an already existing game or simple idea, throw in some waggle, and think "Hey people will like this because it uses waggle!" They need to look at the successful games that Nintendo has made and how they implement the controls. Twilight Princess, MP3, Strikers, all use a very good mixture of buttons and motion sensing. It seems like the third party developers just try and cram as much control into the motion sensing as possible, often end up programming it poorly, and thus it isn't received well.

if it was a fad, it would have started to die down

people that have had one since day one would not still be excited about new games coming out

It's not going to die out for me anytime soon. I've bought more games for the Wii than any other system I've owned, and about half of those aren't first party games.

^^I haven't been keeping up. Why would pushing a game release beyond the holiday shopping season be a good move for Nintendo?

they are saying that the wii is losing steam, and it's a fad

it seems to me that people are already scrambling to get them for the holidays anyway, so pushing it out to feb/march would cause another spike in purchases

^^Nintendo has already stated that they don't have enough systems to meet the demand for the holidays. A game like Smash bros. would move a lot of systems, so it's best to wait until after the holidays when sales would normally slow down to release it and send them soaring again.

^that is a very good hypothesis. That could be why they are pushing it til after christmas. Melee was the best selling game on the gamecube, yes not mario, and they know that inventories will already be low for Christmas.

I see what they did there.

so i'm hoping (probably pointlessly) that since I will be a year behind the release of this system, I can pick up some decent games at eb/gamestop used and slightly cheaper than dropping $50 for a bunch of year old games

what are my chances?

the Neo Geo addition is great.

Battalion Wars 2 is my next pick up, and I am glad is still 2 weeks away. Sadly, we'll need another friend code thread for that too. damnit.

Lego Star Wars may be a must if reviews are solid, but it be hard to buy with Galaxy. Can't really convince the better half on 2 Wii games in a day. Or can i?

Zack & Wiki got an 9.0 from IGN and an 8.5 from Gamespot. Both sites say the game could only be done on Wii and it's only $40, so definitely worth checking out.

yea it looks like it might be fun. if you've ever played an adventure game like king's quest and had somebody "playing" with you, offering suggestions as you go, then you might be interested in the way they implement other controllers. 1 person controls movement, but all the other controllers can draw on the screen to offer suggestions. beats pointing at the screen, and could provide some fun interactivity with friends rather than just having them watch you play a single player game.

my dad, my sister, and i use to play games like day of the tentacle, king's quest, and monkey island together way back when i was little. i'm thinkin about gettin this and reliving the past.

Picked it up at work last night (Gamestop in Greensboro). I either got the last copy, or they were too swamped to get it out on the floor.

I read that most Gamestops received 3 at most (if they received it at all). WalMart, Target, and BB have all received some at select stores. Raleigh doesn't appear to be one of they lucky places though.
