^Hey that's neat. As for 2 instances, it is easiest to use the console version. Run in separate folders, use the -local flag, when configuring say "yes" to change advanced settings, assign each instance a unique machine number i.e. 1 or 2. That's it. You can use EMIII to monitor them if you like. You will see more than 100% increase in your production running 2 instances instead of 1 on an HT machine.

nope, i got 1 point for a WU using 5.0.0, and 86 points for 4 WUs using 5.0.0

my avg. daily pts. WAS 450+pts./day
now... it's a measly 326pts./day

and it's not my computer's getting slower

The points fluctuate based on what type of WUs they send out. Even though they are benchmarked, there is some variation. The only true comparison is running the same WUs on both clients. I have not heard of any problems. The double GROMACS WUs are super fast on P4's, so my points/day go up when double GROMACS are sent out.

I have two double GROMACS right now on a P42.8HT. I am not running the '-advmethods' flag, but I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

Just added another machine today. Got a new job and added the PC at work. Don't know the specs yet, haven't had time to check.

Crappy thing is that 5 or 6 of my fastest machines are 3000 miles away from me now, so I have no control over when they are on or off. Before I left my last job, I installed FAH on as many PCs as I could get access to and set them up as services so no one would know they were running it. When I was there I was able to keep most of them on 24/7 but now people tend to turn them off more often b/c I notice my production decreases over the weekend.

OSU Tickets- I know someone that may have a few extra student tickets, but we will not know until a few hours before the game. If you are an active folder and would be capable of picking up a last minute ticket, shoot me a PM with a phone number so I can get a hold of you on game day.

Fold On!

I was looking into this F@H program, and I've got several extra machines at work that I could put to use. The only problem is we're behind a proxy, and as far as I know we can not access the outside world through port 8080, do you know of an easy way around this?

I have it set to use IE settings, and IE works just fine, however I dont think our proxy handles port 8080 requests, just like it wont handle BitTorrent.

I dont know of any sites that are open on port 8080 that I could try to connect to just to test it though.

I am running the full graphical client on my laptop (Pentium M 1.8), and I just installed a copy on my other desktop which is an Athlon 1GHz.

Basically I would like it to run full speed when my laptop is plugged in, and not run at all on battery. I don't care what client I use (but I guess the smaller footprint the better) - I just installed the full graphical version for the first time to see what it was doing. Also, I would like to make it a background service running full speed all the time on my desktop. Can you tell me how to do this? Thanks.

The graphical client is fine. There should be a checkbox in the options to only run when on AC. If you are a gamer and experience any graphics problems while runing the graphical F@H client, try the text based one. As for the desktop, you can set it up as a service or scheduled task as long as you are the Admin and you use the text based client (Console). It should ask you this when you install F@H.

Quote :
"- Console: Built in service installation support through Configuration, to
have the program automatically begin at machine startup. If one wishes, the
service can be further configured and interacted with through the Services
tool (GUI) that can be accessed through the Windows Settings (under
Administrative Tools in 2000/NT). The Sc command line tool may also be used.
There are known issues with the Net tool.

Gracious I would love to take over my company's network w/ F@H. SO many p4's, so little use, always on.

oh, I have a thumbdrive w/ I think a FAT partition on it. Will this be readable by a mac, and can I save a mac file on it from a PC?

It may work. Someone a few pages back said they take a thumb drive with them to Fold with when they are in the computer lab.

Btw, the latest 5.0.2 actually WILL install it as a service on most windows machines.

Previously the -service tag was used to keep the window from being closed, but in the most recent build, it will actually install it as a service (now works on Windows NT4+ as service). If you are upgrading, be sure to delete the config.cfg file or whatever and run the console and it's in the new settings.

theoretically this should work:
3 files:
autorun.inf
FAH502.cmd
FAH502-Console.exe

in the autorun.inf:
[autorun]
open=FAH502.cmd
icon=FAH502-Console.exe
label=FAH-USB

in the FAH502.cmd:
FAH502-Console.exe -local -forceasm

My production is really diving lately. Sadly, I can't do anything about it. 5 of my best folding machines are 3000 miles away from me and are at the mercy of people who don't know they are even folding with them...

correct... after your first WU you should show up around an hour or so afterwards at the Stanford site then for other stats sites you will trinkle in. What percent are you on?

For the first WU to show up at Stanford, it can take a day or two. After that, it's generally every couple of hours.

well, i have no idea what % i'm at right now, i'm @ my office hours in leazar right now, i left with 35 frames done and about 1 frame a minute i think. i think it said something about 21 hours... that's a bit longer than seti's WU's.

weird...

are all frames the same size and just different WUs a different # of frames?
and is 1 frame/min good with a 3ghz p4? i've got it running on a POS desktop too now.

there are pretty much three different core's they use for each WU

core 65 - tinker's (400-500 frames, can take days) ~200pts/WU or so
core 78 - gromac's (100 frames, on avg. 12-24 hours) ~40-80 pts/WU
core 79 - double gromac's (100 frames, on avg. 24-48 hours) ~120 pts/WU

the above times and points are for my P4 2.4Ghz w/ HT running 2 consoles, your mileage may vary

http://folding.stanford.edu/faq.html#stats.howcred

in general:
points = 110 * (days for WU) - on a 2.8Ghz P4

not that i am aware of... there are small differences potentially, but i think with that you will be getting in to very small advantages if any, such as the many discussions of whether it is faster on linux, xp, nt, etc... so to not answer your question i don't know...

you don't have a HT p4 do you?
