Old school, so most of you have probably graduated and are out in the workplace

I finished school in May and, even after applying to nearly 30 positions in and around the DC area, I'm still jobless. I'm headed to a temp agency tomorrow, so we'll see whats up there.

SO, for the first relatively normal thread here, i'm wondering how long it took for you to find a job after you graduated? Did you stay there long? did you like it?

my advice to people about to graduate is to start looking a semester (or more) in advance, especially with the current job market

if i keep getting healthy like i've been doing, i might just go for a commissioning. dunno why. feel like i'm being called to it.

one more year and i'll be working on an MPA and a JD... so i just need something to pay the bills y'know.

I finish school in December... I've landed 3 jobs so far but nobody will fucking hire me NOW because I'm not out yet. Nobody wants to bend their precious little schedules.

I took me 7 months after I graduated in December 2003. It sucked because right before i got my job I was about to go dead broke and had decided to move back home with the parents for awhile until i could rectify my situation. I still work with my first real job out of college and I love it.

I interned with Progress Energy for two summers before getting this job.

I'm kinda of interested in how many people co-oped or interned before getting thier job.

i didn't start looking for a job for at least 3 months after i graduated. needed some time to clear my head. then i found one in 2 months after i started looking. got a couple of offers.

my advice: apply to places out of the area (if you are willing to move). employers like to see that you have some flexibility.

oh & i never interned or co-oped. thought about it though. had a part-time job all through school. i think the internship/co-op would have been better for experience in my field. definitely recommended.

I graduated in May and found a job a week before graduation. A position at my internship opened up. Unfortunately, it's a short-term contract, so come September there is NO TELLING just what I could be doing. We'll see what happens.

A temp job is good just out of school-- it gives you a lot of flexibility.

Best advice you can give. I graduated last May and didn't start looking until the day after graduation (I was really burned out). I had a job in August. All of those monster resumes I sent out didn't do shit, probobly because I had lousy cover letters. I took the first thing that came my way, and now I'm looking to go back to grad school :-D

I interned at Glaxo in RTP for 3 summers.

In three weeks it'll be my first whole year at a real job. Now thats good resume material

Littleton Skat-Thru

Are there even jobs at Lakeland? That entire region of the state has a terrible unemployment problem. Should be interesting when "Dollywood: Ro-Rap" opens.

My school internship became full time when I graduated from school.

Back in February, I changed to this position I have now. So I have pretty much been working since I graduated.

i graduated may 04.

i started looking for a job mid-february of 04 and i would recommend starting to look earlier. i had some people in my classes that already had job offers by december of 03 because they started early, so they had a very relaxing final semester.

the week before i graduated, i had 2 job offers. i took one, and requested not to start until July, so I could have 1.5 months to relax.

i just had my one year anniversery, and I am still very happy here,

I graduated in 2002, it took about 5 months for me to find a job. It was as a geneticist for a pharmacogeneticist in rtp. I stayed there for over 2 years.

Finished school in August 2003, but I had a full-time job that started on July 14th 2003. Now that I've been employed for 2 years, I am on my second full-time engineering job at an engineering company in Greenville, NC.

Took Jason a year to get this 'real' job. I just talked to my cousin in NY and she graduated last spring and probably won't get a job until next year (teaching). And of course I'm not out yet so I couldn't tell ya

I think if you're single it's definitely something you have to be willing to move for. Jason's company is national so if I get a job offer elsewhere, he has a possibility of being able to transfer. If you have done any video editing, you could apply to the same job =P

yeah, you really limit yourself when you try to stay in one area. my only real requirement was that i wanted to stay on the east coast. i ended moving 4-5 hours away from raleigh, and i have no regrets.

i miss my old friends, but ive made new ones, and i live in a bigger city, so theres way more to do around here.

I had a job immediately after graduating because I was working part-time for my current engineering firm while going to school. I highly recommend doing that because lots of companies hire out of their intern (office scrub) workpool.

I started working at the place I am now part-time the summer before I graduated and started full-time a couple months after I graduated in December.

However, my job ends in December 2006.

I graduated in December and had a job as a writer at a community paper on Jan. 9. Right at six months later, I'm being offered a job as the full-time sports writer at a fairly large daily with a clear path for being the sports editor within a year or two at most. N.C. State's English department surprised me.
