Quote :
"Other candidates pooh-pooh Winburn drug test challenge

By Gregory Korte
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Republican mayoral candidate Charlie Winburn released results of a medical report Thursday that he said proves he is not on illegal drugs - and suggested that his opponents should do the same.

"Leadership against the drug trade has to start at the top," Winburn said, noting that the city manager requires pre-employment drug testing for city employees. "What's good for employees is good for public officials. There should be no double standard. Public officials should not be above city policy."

Winburn spoke to a rally of about 75 supporters Thursday morning at the Vernon Manor Hotel in Avondale, standing next to a blown-up poster of the report from Green Township-based Cincinnati Med-Lab.

"I am not saying anything about a candidate. I am saying Charlie Winburn is drug-fee," Winburn said. "Someone asked me, 'Will you make it an issue if the other candidates refused to take a test?' The real question is, will the voters make it an issue?""

If I have to, then they should have to take them.

hmmmm. good question... i don't see a problem with asking them to take a drug test. requiring, though... i dunno. haven't totally thought that through.

although, one could argue that such a requirement could be used to stifle opposition on some political issues, namely legalizing marijuana and such...

^haha I think they should be required to if city employees are. It would also be funny to see which politicians fail, and from what kind of drug. by the way, it is hell trying to find a job that doesn't drug test these days.

i'd absolutely love to test politicians

this would give them a dose of their own medicine... once they were under the gun, so to speak, i wonder how important the "drug war" would seem to them.

^^ True, but what's good for the goose is good for the gander. It's flagrantly hypocritical for a government to require even its lowest level employees to test when its own legislators and executors don't have to.

If they insist on a war on drugs ... then fuck yes.

Test them.

I mean, in a fair system, what could they say in response?

"It's far more important for Sandy the Librarian, whose job entails the sorting and shelving of books, to be sober at all hours, than it is for Joe Congressman--whose decisions involve millions of dollars and will impact millions of lives, to be required to abstain from a cocaine or heroin addiction."

Congressmen would probably do a better job high, its harder to shovel out the pork if youre shoveling in the potato chips.

it's hard enough to get atheletes to own up.

the thought of getting politicians to do this honestly seems laughable to me.

well, when you have enough money are desperate enough to have sex with stunning play-mates a fat and ugly intern, you don't need to take drugs.
