It seems as if auto-protect runs alright. Whenever I log on, I can see the auto protect icon in my system tray. If I right click it and click "Open Norton Antivirus" the cursor turns to the hourglass for a split second and nothing happens. Any ideas?

reinsall?

use the RNAV203 applcation at the link below to completely remove norton (follow their instructions), then reinstall. I would recommed using NCSU's corporate version, instead of the retail verion...also at the link below.

yeah just reinstall. Norton seems to do bad installs every now and then that lead to weird problems.

However, I agree with Noen. AVG http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

you can also use http://housecall.trendmicro.com for a second scanner. its nice because its on the outside looking in, can't be fouled up by viruses on your system
