the red was only $30 more than a regular batter, and the yellow was only $60 more. I figured it was a wise investment. I like the gel cell over liquid acid.

you could have kept that $90 in your pocket 'cause those batteries don't last longer than a normal battery. they are only better if you buy them for the cause they are intended.

what are they intended for beyond starting a car?

they are more vibration resistant (for use in an off-road vehicle) and can mount in any position so unless it's going in an off-road buggy or mount the battery upside down, it's a waste of money.

optima claims they last longer but the people i know who have owned them say differently along with the people at Batteries Plus who sell them (ain't that a kicker).

you'll also see the deep-cycle blue top a lot in car audio installations so they can play the stereo with the car not running since a deep-cycle battery is able to withstand discharge/recharges better.

Blue is also deep cycle, but it's a marine deep cycle designed to do double duty: crank and continuous discharge.

The yellow top is for my stereo, and the maxima gets obused, so I got the red top. Also, that battety is going to be in the maxima's trunk, not the engine compartment.

Voids the warranty on the battery, or the stereo, or the car?
If you make a statement like that you need to be more specific.

Well obviously it isn't going to void the warranty on the stereo.

Quit ruining my trick.
If he answered with stereo, I could have completely ignored him, even though he seems to know his stuff usually.

Alright, my battery has died a couple of times within the past two weeks. I keep getting it recharged and i drive it for about 3 or 4 days and it dies again. Is this from the heat or do i just have a bad alternator. IF it's the alternator, how long does that normally take to get replaced. I need my car fixed by next thursday to make it back home to my dads wedding

I ve had my red top for 8 years and it has never let me down. Ive drained it dead several times and it has always come right back. Its a good investment if you plan on keeping a vehicle for a while.

Anybody use really small car batteries or lawnmower/motorcycle batteries? I wouldn't mind saving 20-30lbs. I don't listen to my stereo w/out the engine running...
