$3.5k - two owner car, original lease owner, then the same guy had it for 12 years - mechanically it's flawless, though it has some cosmetic issues

- paint chip near the gas filler cap
- cracked front air dam
- cracked dash board (typical of this style)
- seat leather has a few discontinuities
- small indentation in the rear license plate area
- two door dings on the driver's side
- paint's kinda faded

that's about it though- all accessories work

Sold the BMW because I was very disappointed in the 5 series build quality (it had more squeaks, creaks, rattles than this 16 year old porsche) and the approach they took to certain engineering solutions - like the 4 link rear suspension - while technically perfect - all the different bushings/ball joints that wear out - it makes it infuriating to own in the long run.

service records? or no? if you dont have them, go ahead and have the timing belt replaced. and the waterpump. the new waterpumps are all the style that came on the turbo cars but dont worry itll bolt right up.

ohhh you might just be able to DD it then. the last 944 i looked at needed a lot of front end work and rode like shit. underpowered too, but 944 is the common mans porsche after all.

yeah compared to the 540 this thing crawls off the line (4000-6000 rpm is nice though) but the handling is brilliant - it should make a fine commuter car

You lose some credibility when for what seemed like a year you pumped the 540 so hard your dick has to be gone, and now you have slammed it and moved on to something else. GG.

I've seen this red 944 turbo around campus lately. Actually I was getting off the inner beltline onto wade avenue, making a left, when I look through the rear view mirror and see that 944 get sideways in the intersection... I got on it a little bit but shit I've got a nonturbo. Saw him on hillsborough street once, and then Tuesday night he was two cars behind me when I was turning on to Dan Allen from Western.

^^ The 540 is still a great car for someone that doesn't mind spending assloads of money on suspension bushings/window seals, so on - the performance/luxury balance is still about the best available.

Just wasn't worth it to me in the long run.

I have also come to realize in the last year my requirements for a car have changed somewhat since I bought the 540 - I used to have to drive up to Washington DC and back a couple of times per month - meaning silence and highway stability were paramount.

Since the GF started grad school back here in Charlotte I put 10 miles a day on the car, back and forth to work, and that's about it. No need for all the luxury/power when you're capped at 45mph.

That and given the somewhat less demanding requirements for the car, I also decided it would be good to find one that would get more than 18 mpg.

Times change.

^ That's funny. I knew he's owned several, but he seems so reserved on Tdub...
