What made TNG great, IMO, is how they used the frame of being set in the future with future technologies, to explore various types of issues (philosophical, social, political, etc.). Instead of just having elements directly analogous to things around us to make a point (like Enterprise liked to do), they used the future things to get a new perspective.

It doesn't matter if the show is not centered around the captain/crew or of its in the future or not, or whatever, it just has to effectively use all of its own elements, without being lame, preachy, or too cheesy (Enterprise suffered from all 3 of those and so did Voyager to a lesser extent).

Just let it die. Just let the Star Trek franchise rest in peace already.

Just bring back DS9 with a new war to fight for 6 years. And the enterprise can hang around to, with 7of 9

How can it be the beginning if it is set after another Star Trek? Shouldn't that one have been the beginning?

Oh god.

They just don't get it.

Its amazing how there is not an iota of writing and production talent at Paramount.

Even if they didn't want to let Star Trek to go, they should at least have waited a decade or so to try and bring it back.

When TOS aired then went off the air Star Trek wasn't done. After the movies and a few decades off TNG came onto the scene and was an awesome show at the right time.

Now is not the right time.

They should just leave it alone AT LEAST 10 years.

They left room for Data to come back, but it's probably not going to happen.
