So does anyone have any ideas on what the next big MMORPG is going to be? Any leads on beta tests and whatnot. I need something new and fresh (played Eve for almost 2 years), or should I just suck it up and buy WoW and be behind?

damn eve was awesome for a week... wow's the only mmorpg i've been able to play for longer than a week since asheron's call.

everquest lasted an hour
asheron's call 2 lasted 4 days
final fantasy xi lasted 6 days
eve lasted a week

dunno whats exactly different about it, but it's working so far.

Yea pick the newest one.

Established servers have too many lvl 60's.

Eve was awesome in the graphics department and the depth. Its just so fucking huge.

next big MMO for me is Pirates of the burning sea. I signed up for beta so hopefully i can get in and try it for free

but in the mean time, definitly buy WoW.

You'll be fine with WoW, I've played MMO's where you're screwed if you join late but WoW is definitly not one of those. New servers are listed as "New" in the realm list.

Not to mention the WoW expansion will undoubtably cause a few rerolls.

Yeah starting late with WoW is not an issue at all. There are so many new servers all of the time you will hardly be behind at all.

what does it matter if there are a lot of level 60s on the server already?

ive re-rolled multiple characters on my server and there is never a shortage of people around to group with.

Yeah, don't even worry about being behind. I mean, go to the Quest discussion forums on the official WoW site. The majority of the threads are still "OMG, where is Mankrik's wife" and "where do I get quests for SM".

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes
http://www.vanguardsagaofheroes.com/

Sigil Games is the developer, a company founded by Everquest creators Brad McQuaid and Jeff Butler. The rest of the team is a collection various developers, designers, and artists from EQ, DAOC, WOW, SWG, etc. The lead artist is Keith Parkinson (who did pretty much every quality book cover for the fantasy genre, like DragonLance and Forgotten Realms).

Beta1 applications were being sent out to community members (something like 25,000 on the forums) the last week or so. It will be released some time in 2006. The publisher is Microsoft so they have plenty of cash backing them.

This is probably the next big contender for EQ2, L2, FFxi, and WoW.

I like the looks of Dark and Light and Age of Conan. Both could be really good or suck hard.

Yeah, got mine last Wednesday. They are doing it by profile number so it might take awhile to get to yours depending upon when you joined. There is TONS of info on the forums on it. THey are not done sending them out yet.

Publishers can only do so much to help a game succeed. If the developers bow it then cut your losses. They sold AC2 back to the developers.

Well, I really meant EQ/EQ2 since they are essentially the same player base (and combined would be the 3rd largest, 2nd in the US). EQ2 alone does have more than twice as many subscribers as CoH.

i played CoH for a few months, it was fun but got old. I haven't even installed beta for City of vilians because i'm pretty sure its the same thing just 'evil'

IMO the CoV classes are more "fun". CoH seemed more of a defensive, get your team together and buffed game. CoV seems to lean more to the Solo approach and SMASH everything in your way type game play. The PvP in it also adds a interesting twist to the CoH gameplay.... Only done abit in the two beta events they had though so not sure how it will be in the live game

is it true that you can only pvp coh vs. cov if you have BOTH games?

cuz they are stand alone

No PvP zones are the only thing you don't have to have both for... but that is just at launch.... they have pretty much said bases and everything else will make it's way into CoH
