This thread just got locked b/c it was promoting an event. I don't think thats fair, b/c the calendar is largely ignored.

Lock it. That guy and others will learn their lesson. I look at the calendar.

i still have the same complaint about the calendar showings on the front page... since it only shows the day of the event and few people actually check ahead of time, then showing more than just a single days events on the front page would be more beneficial

if people posted everything on the calendar, it wouldn't be largely ignored. the calendar is a lot better of an organizational medium for events. for example, you want to know what to do today? tomorrow? click on the date on the calendar and all events are displayed. try looking on the message board. you have to go back like 5 pages and scan every thread title and hope that the thread author named it intuitively.

look how popular the calendar used to be:
calendar.aspx?month=2&year=2001

BTW, if you have any suggestions on how to increase the usability of the calendar, throw them at me!

I have a great idea. When you click on the calendar you show all the events for a day (not just the new events). This months calendar would look the same as the one you had mentioned if it showed all events.

When I look to the calendar for events I want to see everything, not just new stuff. The reason I say this is becuase I don't look at the calendar often. But if I have friends coming into town I will. But to see events I have to go to the date for each event which could become troublesome...

Thats a good idea... I just don't like going to the "calendar" page and not being able to see all events for everyday.

it also apears that mdbncsu does not add 'everything' NCSU does anymore...

actually it shows all one-time events on the calendar. it just doesn't show events that occur weekly.

Actually, hate to say it, but thats quite a bold statement there. In fact, I don't think there is any scientific data supporting that theory.

I know, anecdotally, by my own personal experience, that I actually NEVER look at the calendar. Why not? Its not because I know I can find out stuff on the regular boards (this would be required given CrazyJ's logic) it is because I rarely think of checking on current events.

If everyone posted everything on the calendar, I would never remember to think about what is going on. Now, maybe I'm just a kook, but I have a sneaking suspicion that holds true for the majority of other people also.
