yep, looks like a 98 camry that's had some fire damage at some point. where are you finding these cars?

does that mean the car is "salvaged"? Should I stay away from this car at all cost?

Do you guys actually have access to a carfax account? I wouldn't mind the info on a VIN # for a car I'm considering...
Thanks to anyone that could help.

I called the owner to verify the fire thing, and he said the car hasn't been in any fire. He said the VIN might be wrong so he gave me this one. It should be still a 98 Camry. Please check for me.

Thanks

nope, that's an invalid vin. the other one you posted is for a 98 camry. that's what carfax is for, to dig up info owners won't reveal.

I just went to test-drive the car this evening. The owner showed me the carfax report, and it's clean as the whistle.

Moral of the story: either put up the $ for a carfax report yourself, or require the seller too. Dont ask us.

Helpful hint: there are people who show up from time to time who have one of the 1-month unlimited carfax deals, and are nice enough to share them. However, if you find one of those people, they will usually PM you the full text results, not post a two-line description in the thread.

helpful hint: quit being a cheap ass and buy a report or request the seller to provide one if they want to make a sale. carfax is a joke anyway.

I did, I did finally pay...

The story of this XXXX PORSCHE ------- (XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX) according to our interpretation of the information reported to CARFAX:
Blue Arrow This coupe has had 1 owner in Massachusetts. The first title for this coupe was reported to CARFAX by a Massachusetts DMV in XXXX.
Blue Arrow It has had no minor or moderate accidents reported to CARFAX.
Blue Arrow It has had no DMV-reported total loss events, like a major accident, fire or flood.
Blue Arrow It has not been reported by a DMV as having an Exceeds Mechanical Limits or Not Actual Mileage title.
Blue Arrow It has a consistent mileage history with no indication of an odometer rollback. It was driven an average of 2,920 miles per year, which is lower than the industry average of 15,000. The last odometer reading, reported on 06/25/2005, was XX,XXX miles.
Blue Arrow It was not reported by a DMV as a Manufacturer Buyback or LEMON.
Blue Arrow It has no recalls that still require repair.

Good enough.
