IMDB.com has topher grace playing Venom...

That casting doesn't seem right. I agree with THC as Sandman, but Topher as Venom?

maybe they've taken the Carnage character and made him into Venom to compensate for both Venom and Carnage without having to do both characters

Venom is fucking huge and the suit is skin tight, it's not like they can just add a lot of padding to the suit to fake it.

I jumped over to the marvel site to check out the venom profile and it said he could change himself to look like anybody else, so maybe start out with a big dude then changes to look like topher grace to try and get into mj's pants?

I couldn't find a post about this (unless it's in chit chat), but Bryce Dallas Howard (blind chick in The Village) has been cast as Gwen Stacy according to tvguide.com. Any guesses on major plot twists for the next movie?

http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Movies/01/19/film.spiderman.reut/index.html

Quote :
"Gwen is pivotal in Spider-Man lore as Peter's high school crush, his first girlfriend and his first love. She ended up being kidnapped by the Green Goblin and died during a bridgetop battle in "Amazing Spider-Man" issue 121.

In "Spider-Man," Columbia Pictures put Mary Jane Watson, a later love interest of Peter's who was a model, in the Gwen role, casting Kirsten Dunst as the high school crush. The 2002 movie featured the famous battle on the bridge with the Green Goblin, though a Hollywood ending was added, and the character survived.

Columbia is keeping a tight lid on the third movie's story line, though it is known that Gwen is the third part of a love triangle and that the character does survive. The film is scheduled for release next year.

dammit, Venom was my fav marvel character and now they're gonna fuck him up. topher is nowhere near the size Eddie should be. Size wise someone with the build of Vinnie Jones or something should play Eddie.

^ yes he would, mickey rourke - his character in sin city is kinda of the right feature too, crew cut, scruntched up face. i always approved of the artist that drew Amazing Spider-man as drawing the best Venom (as opposed to Spectacular, or all of the various artists and titles) - and the best Eddie

Attaching the name Gwen Stacy to a character from some new, random-ass plotline is stupid.

With that said, Bryce Dallas Howard is hottt.

either McFarlane or Erik Larsen (who took over for McFarlane) - i don't have access to my old comics, they are back home, so i cant say for sure. but whoever drew:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d8/Venomlethal1.jpg

is who i'm referring to. and it is not Mark Bagley.

Actually, that is Mark Bagley's Venom. He always gave Venom and Spidey that really streamlined look. Ron Lim penciled the second half of Lethal Protector, if I'm not mistaken, as well as that story with Venom and Vengance. Maybe that's the artist you're referring to?

^ i suppose. whoever did the last spiderman issues leading up to lethal protector, i think its amazing spiderman #374 and #375 - that "appears" to be the same artist. when i was looking around i saw some other illustrations by mark bagley and it was horrible:

This is a late response, but Mark Bagley's art style in Ultimate Spiderman took a turn for the shitty. I think the idea was to give that book a distinct look compared to his Amazing Spiderman stuff. Are those ASMs you refer to the ones where they make that truce? Those are definetly Bagley books. He started regularly drawing with the Carnage storyline (365?) and stopped toward the end of the clone saga, some time after 400.

yeah, the ones where they make the truce. and it was ASM #365 where venom and spidey team up to take down carnage (one of my first comic book purchases was that issue). but wow, if he went from that to the ultimate style, thats weird as hell. most ppl improve in ability... those styles are just so damn different from one another

takes ANYONE like a scrawny actor with MONEY to get a full time personal trainer and beef up in ... THREE months, count it, 3 months they can look like they've been lifting for a LONG FUCKING TIME.

all they do is work out, eat, read scripts they have more time to recover than other people with real jobs and what not so can get shit done faster.

^^ actually that particular book you linked might be a guest cover. Mose of these covers covers (http://www.comicsvf.com/fs/17950.php) look a lot more like his older stuff, but still not as good. I only have one issue of the comic, and you can tell he drew it, but the fact that it's off at all sucks, because his old style was perfect.

No. No he's not. Some artitsts take liberties, but that's what happens when you have 50 different artists drawing the same character over 30 years.

Quote :

aha. He and Carnage are what was wrong with Marvel in the 90's. That and Rob Liefeld.

I just wanted to point out that Ultimate Spider-Man's Eddie Brock was a skinny college dude, and it worked out well. Once combined with the symbiote, he bulked up. I can't really imagine any actor carrying off Venom well without major cgi anyways.

At first I thought it was someone with an eye patch, but after I rotated it a bunch of times over, I think it's just reflection off his suit.

Regardless, it definitely looks like art ...
