the team that loses in the conference tittle game? say fsu loses @clempson @florida and then to miami ( i see 2 them losing 2 of those very realistic) they would be 8-4 or 7-5 which would be worse than or equal to the next best team in the accs record behind the big 3. would the gator bowl have to pick fsu in this situation? or are they free to pick the team that looks the best (ie gt, ncsu, bc whoever pans out better). i know in the past they could im just not sure what new policies are with this tittle game.

Well, we were 4th in the ACC the year we went (pissing off a couple of other teams), so I would assume there are ways around it.

according to the gator bowl webpage
"The first selection in the ACC and Big East or Notre Dame following the BCS selection."

so they just have first pick AFTER the BCS selection...so they don't HAVE to pick the next in line..as someone stated earlier..
I believe we went ahead of maryland and virginia the year we went and they were pissed

They get the first selection/invitation after the BCS. I believe the rule is they can pick any team within 1 game in the conference standings of the next highest team.

I think the loser of the title game will be going to the peach bowl unless 2 ACC teams go BCS.

I have a feeling VT is a lock for the Gator right now and needing some help for BCS. Loser of Miami and FSU goes Peach, Winner to the Orange. The rest will be politics and who will travel. If we get 6 wins...we will hop some teams and have a chance at a good bowl b/c our fans travel. I think BC is going to get the shaft bigtime. They may end up in Boise.

I don't believe we have anything to do with this...we sure aren't in the running for Gator or Peach even if we win out.

This is a new issue b/c the Championship game is in the same stadium as the Gator Bowl....Fans are less likely to travel there twice. The only team I think would have a good showing would be FSU twice b/c its only 2+/- hours away.

If FSU wins the ACC title game, I could see VT or Miami getting an at large BCS bid.

if fsu loses out we win out and vt gets a bcs bid i would think wed be one of the leading canidates along with gt and clemson depeding on what they did for the gator bowl. dont count vt out the bcs yet alot of teams are still going to lose.

^That's a LOT of ifs in your statement. My take on it is that if we win out and have good luck, we end up in the Champs Sports Bowl (or whatever the one played in Orlando is called these days). Win out and have bad luck, Tire Bowl in Charlotte. Lose to BC, beat MTSU and UMD, we have a slim chance for the bowl in Boise. A loss to UMD kills any bowl hopes, as does more than one loss.

But honestly, even though we'd qualify with 2 more wins, I think we have to win out to have any realistic bowl hopes. If we lose to BC, we'd have to look really really sharp against UMD plus have fortune smile on us bigtime.

^thats the right idea. all these damn threads are just like the ones where people got all hyped up that the panters were gonna go to the playoffs last year. and we know how that turned out. How about we wait till we win 6 games to speculate where we will be in december?

Right now the SEC has 3 teams already out of the bowl picture, and 3 more (Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and Mississippi) with 5 losses and very likely to not be bowl eligible. Including the BCS spot, the SEC has 8 bowl tie-ins. So thats potentially 2 more bowls that could be added to the ACCs 6 bowl tie-ins, plus if either the ACC or SEC gets two BCS bids, thats potentially even more bowls. Hence, even if we go 6-5, we go bowling.

If we go 6-5 we go bowling & that's that. There is if ands or buts about it. Some WILL take us.

Last year, all but 1 or 2 bowl eligible 1A teams went to a bowl. I think Akron was one. And that school(s) was from a smaller conference with a 6-5 record, with a tiny fanbase.

Any major conference school that is bowl eligible WILL go bowling. It's just a matter of where. Even the last time Wake was 6-5 they went to the Silicon Valley bowl or something, not even bringing more than a few thousand fans.

Also, if we get another win this weekend, it could be possible that there will be a Champs or Tire bowl representative at the MTSU game, ready to make an invite.

The ACC will probably take a bowl or two from the SEC this year.

^ Charlotte would take us or Carolina over everybody but Clemson, just because the fan base is in the area.

the Poinsettia bowl in San Diego has one at-large bid so that is another potential ACC bowl game.

If thinkgs fall right we could end up in the Peach, heres why. We have not been since 95 or 96. THey know how we bring lots of fans and would love that in the Atl.

FSU wins out and goes to the title game
UM wins out
VT wins out

FSU and UM get BCS
VT gator

now the rest

We win out 7-4
Clem 0-2 lose to FSU and USC
UNC lose to Mary beat Duke and lose to VT 6-5/5-6
BC lose to Pack
GT finishes 7-4 but the peach does not take them because there is no $$$
UVA loss to VT, and I think they play BC not sure

I think it ends up between UVA/PAck and GT, and the Pack gets in because of the fans they will bring.

Possible teams we might play would be USC, AUB, maybe Tenn depending how they finish and LSU.

That would be the South Carolina Gamecocks (USC) you dip shit seeing how the Peach Bowl is an ACC vs SEC game.

I did not think I would have to spell it out but I forgot that some of the people that read this board are really not that smart.

I would friggin' love it if we ended up playing UT in a bowl.

They suck this year despite talent, our guys step up because they're playing a big-name SEC school...and that fat fuck goes down.

The Bowl Committee has already stated that as long as Navy meets the 6 win requirement for bowling, they will always be offered the at large bid. Navy needs one win out of Notre Dame, Rice, and Temple to get in. Then again, the Liberty Bowl is looking at Navy too, so Poinsettia may still be open if Navy takes that.
