I'm not putting this in the soapbox, because more of you need to see this. I don't think there's any reason to even debate it. This man is dangerous. Yeah, he's getting exactly what he wants - attention and money - for doing this. Nonetheless, this has got to stop.

http://cbs5.com/topstories/local_story_315014627.html

Basically, San Francisco voted to curb military recruiting in public schools. Bill O'Reilly's response?

Quote :
"If Al Qaeda comes in here and blows you up, we're not going to do anything about it,” he continued. “We're going to say, ‘look, every other place in America is off limits to you, except San Francisco. You want to blow up the Coit Tower? Go ahead"

One of you tell me how you can justify that. I DARE YOU.

I think both are fucked up. Why can't the military recruit in schools?

ok, I actually read the link. Who gives a fuck? This guy is a talk show host. He wants people to watch him plain and simple. I'd put him up there with that 9/11 movie fucker, Moore (had to look his name up too). Welcome to the media machine.

If you can seriously give me a logical explanation as to how you can compare asking recruiters not to bother school kids and INVITING AL QUEDA TO BLOW UP COIT TOWER, I'll discuss this with you.

but to answer your question, because the people voted on it. Not "activist judges," not even the government. That's what democracy is about. 59% of them decided against military recruiters. That's why. If 59% of san franciscans tell me they think it's cool for o'reilly to invite al queda to blow up coit tower, I'll shut up.

They aren't even on any level to compare the two (Inviting terrorists and recruiting). I don't agree with what he said at all.

I make the comparison because I'm not truely educated about either of them or the situation. Its my assumption they both go over the top however just for reactions. If they both honestly believe all the crap that spews out of their mouths, I wish someone would bonk them on the head and take them both off the air.

[Edited on November 11, 2005 at 10:50 PM. Reason : this time I'm comparing Moore and the other guy.]

the particulars of this simple out-of-context statement I don't particularly disagree with.

If california fell into the sea tomorrow, I wouldn't really mind.

I really don't like it that much.

Well, no matter how much san francisco wants to get rid of military recruiters and go back to hippe regalia, there is a law called the solomon amendment that allow them to recruit there as long as it is a public school. I think what is a bigger issue is how san francisco plans on banning guns in the city limits. Take away guns from the law abiding homeowners and allows hoodlums to rob without the fear of getting shot. Look what happened in dc.

Pat Robertson did about the same thing by telling Pennsylvanians that they better not expect God to be there if they ever get in trouble after voting intelligent design out of their public schools.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/11/10/religion.robertson.reut/

Quote :
"Conservative Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson told citizens of a Pennsylvania town that they had rejected God by voting their school board out of office for supporting "intelligent design" and warned them Thursday not to be surprised if disaster struck."

yea i dont think what he said was all that bad; it was stupid and pointless to ban recruiters out of schools. if u dont wanan go into the army, just tell them u dont. and o'reilly wasnt being serious, and anyone who thinks that he was is an idiot. he was simply trying to make a point. once again, this is how liberals try to blow things out of porportion

i'm under the impression that recruiting should be limited in high schools. i wouldn't want to join the military, but other than that, i don't really have anything against it.

however, i think some recruiters are more concerned about meeting their quota of recruits than to acting properly. the air force recruiter who always came to my school kept bothering me about joining, even after i repeatedly told him i wasn't interested.

my cousin was likewise encouraged to join the air force (by the same recruiter), and eventually signed up. unfortunately, even after several rounds of tests and evaluations, nobody told him, "you shouldn't join." they let him wash out of boot camp. it turns out he has aspberger's syndrome and couldn't cut it...but it seemed like they were more interested in getting a recruit than noticing the symptoms during all the evaluations

maybe most recruiters aren't like that...but there's my reason for being against them being in high schools.

hey, smart guy: did you know that san francisco pays federal taxes, just like everywhere else? is that not contributing?

and besides, not letting recruiters come into high schools does not mean recruiters don't exist

Yes. Besides the mail which he reads on the show, he has conservative republicans on the show often that he doesn't agree with. He is quick to point out flaws in the bush administration. He is tough on lots of issues and people regardless of political affiliation. BTW I'm not republican.

when he says balanced on most issues, it means that people from both end of the spectrum disagree with him. It depends on the issue really. In most cases he's pretty conservative, but I believe he doesn't support the death penalty for instance. You can't necessarily pigeonhole him.

You really can pigeonhole him,

when he actively supports Republicans, hates most Democrats other than Lieberman, and uses "liberal" as a derogatory term.

Differing with the GOP on a handful of issues does not make him balanced. It just makes him only 85% GOP mouthpiece.

Fair and balanced my ass. He might read letters from both sides, but he handpicks the ones that make foolish arguments that are easy to counter. I wouldn't expect anything less.
