how much $$ are you looking on spending at this trip - cheapest room there is going to run ~420ish/night

no, no particular reason - just wanted to go somewhere tropical. this is an alternative to a ski trip that my family has taken every year for 10 years, and i'm ready to go somewhere warm. so i'm pretty much open to any suggestions, the reason i've looked at the bahamas is because a friend of mine recently went and stayed at atlantis and loved it. so tell me more about costa rica compared to the bahamas..

You should spend the week in thailand

plane tickets will be half of your budget - and you can live like a king there for about 100 a day.

What are you looking for in the Bahamas? You want the casinos and clubs or quiet and relaxation? Nassaue/PI is for the casinos and drinking, I would recommend the Exumas for quiet, there is a four seasons there which is nice. Good bonefishing and beautiful beacehes there too. You have to remember, the Bahamas is not just Nassau and Grand Bahama, the out islands have great accomodations with much more of an island experience.

good info, thanks. yeah, i'm definitely interested in more of a relaxing vacation - i plan to spend most of my time on the beach and in the water instead of in a casino. and yeah, i'd like to get a way from the real commercial areas

thats the truth, fly into bangkok, take a short flight down to the islands from there, maybe a little scuba diving at koh tao, full-moon party on koh phangun, hiking through the jungle on koh samui. cant get much more tropical than that

oh, and its about $3 a night for a bungalow on the beach

Just don't go down there on some spring break package...the weather is not that great and you have to take a really shitty boat.
