i'm beginning to interview and i need to know the best place to get a suit. i would like to say that money isn't a matter, but it is. i know that these things cost a lot, though. i'm looking to spend up to $500, but anything below that (that also looks great) would be better.
really need this advice.
thanks. 12/7/2005 2:57:11 PM |

Jos A Banks regularly has sales where you can get good suits for around 200 12/7/2005 3:02:02 PM |

you can get a deal on a suit at sk mens at crossroads
save your money on getting a really nice suit and get 2 or maybe even 3 for 500 bucks there
that way you can get a black, grey, and brown or blue suit for work when you get hired
the more you know 12/7/2005 3:02:34 PM |

Depending on how often you are going to wear it, you can get a suit for around 150 at a department store, or maybe at S&K or one of those places, and then get it tailored if need be. That is, if it's just for interviews and stuff. If you are going to be wearing it to work, too, you might want to spend a little more. I'm sure there's more places where you could spend 500 bucks than you need to know. 12/7/2005 3:03:42 PM |

i got a $100 suit at marshalls this weekend. they dont normally carry them... i was at s&k, didnt like the low-end suits, so i gave marshalls a try and voila! this thing is around the quality of the $300 suits at marshalls imo. give them a shot, they had a few left when i got this one. 12/7/2005 3:18:24 PM |

i've bought 3 at express and 2 at banana republic recently
maybe not the most fashionable clothes on the planet, but given that I've managed to get the prices down from $400-500 to $150-300 given various discounts and promotions, it's been well worth it for everyday wear 12/7/2005 3:56:50 PM |

Yeah, Jos A Banks is sending me a lot of promotions this year for the holidays. They have very good deals running and their quality & fit is by far the best you'll get at a chain store. 12/7/2005 4:38:23 PM |

for the money I'd go to Off Saks 5th or maybe even the Saks 5th in North Raleigh.
don't ever buy a cheap suit. it'll always look cheap. brooks brothers is always a good choice too. 12/7/2005 4:44:22 PM |

I'll second that S&K is really good for suits. I got one there a few years ago for ~$100 (including them hemming the trousers for me) and it still looks brand new. I have only really worn it 6-8 times since then for job interviews and formal events, but it looks good. 12/7/2005 4:50:21 PM |

You guys are nuts. Drive around the GoodWills and pay $10 for a suit and another $10 to dryclean it. I promise you'll find at least one that fits you. Pay another $10 to have it tailored if absolutely necessary. Charlotte has an excellent selection if you are willing to drive / from that area. Wal-mart has Puritan ties for $9; shirts for $12; and shoes for $15; socks for $2.
Total Cost: ~$60. 12/7/2005 5:48:28 PM |

don't buy a shitty suit.
if you have to look good enough to wear a suit, you need to look good enough to wear a good one.
Kannon's in Wendell is the shit, but they have a lot of high end stuff (although I haven't been in there in a long time, so i guess things could've changed) 12/9/2005 2:38:08 AM |

a question: if i'm getting suited for an interview, should i go with the classic and traditionally acceptable 3-button, or be classy and fashionable with the 5-button. the people at the men's warehouse gave me a bad look when i said 5-buttons look nicer. they do, but they said it's more for fashion or partyware than it is for an interview.
and what about the banana republic? looked kind of cheesy...way overpriced. 12/28/2005 4:08:39 PM |

^5 buttons are for thugged out pro athletes and/or high schoolers trying to look "pimpin" at their prom
3 buttons look way classier 12/28/2005 4:19:37 PM |

Are you black, over forty, wear a hat with a feather, and either play for the Knicks or manage a half dozen whores? Then don't get a 5 button suit.
Get one good suit, not multiple shitty ones. 12/28/2005 7:01:30 PM |
