at a large bank.

if you're traveling however, its best to convert over there, or use your credit card for everything... so says clark howard.

Call ahead into your bank exactly the amount you want, and they will order it for you.

Just send them a $25 check.

When they deposit it, it will automatically convert into the right currency. I do this when I send money to family back in India. Never had any problems.

^Yeah, otherwise they'll charge you to convert it and that will just suck.

conversion of money takes a week or so anyway at banks, i used to have to do it when i worked there and it was a pain...also, the fee is a waste for something as little as 25 dollars...

Just use the local ATM's. The rates are very good & when I went there I don't think there was any fees. It showed up on my account as a purchase.

i used ATM or credit b/c the exchange rate would stay current and i'd get more for my money than exchanging once here or there and having to also pay a fee

i did get charged a service fee on my ATM when i got home though...it was like $60.00 total i think

Try

First Citiwide Change Bank...

airports will charge the highest fees along with the exchange rates.

Sending money to your friends, particularly a low amount like that is going to cost you quite a bundle because most banks do not like to exchange <$100.

If you were traveling my best suggestion is always take about $40 in american cash, pay to exchange that to currency at the airport when you land. Then use your ATM card to exchange/pull out money because ATMs in europe do not charge fees for exchange cash and rarely charge fees for not using *their* bank. So since I have SECU my exchange fee was the fee for not using a SECU ATM aka .75 american cents.

not everyone has a foreign bank account, though

and its nearly impossible to get a check cashed in europe without your own bank account (even if check was written from local bank), i tried for 6 months

But I go to a local brach in DC, never used their website. It looks pretty good though.

if they have paypal, use that. it's SUPER easy to send money, because you can send the amount in almost any currency...I have sent money to a few good friends through paypal and it works great- plus it's really fast since it's from bank account to bank account.
