most of the times these people look homeless, but maybe they are not. im refering to when stores go out of business or have big sales, they have people on the street corners holding the signs.

maybe other people think its fine, but i think it is degrading for people to do that. opinions?

those businesses are providing a job for someone who may not have an income otherwise, and there's no other reason the company needs to do that. it would be cheaper for them to buy a post to hold the sign up. so if that means it's degrading to the bum, so be it, but it seems reasonably charitable for the company.

I know a guy who's job is basically finding these people and giving them signs and telling them where to stand. He gets paid to go to the city the company is going out of business in, getting signs made, and hiring these degradees.

Did anyone else see the piece a few months ago about the internet gambling guy that did his advertising through homeless people. He called it "Bum-Vertising" hilarious and it worked, only paid them a few bucks and they added a little piece to their normal sign for his website. He said it worked great.

you should see some of the mardi gras parades... they let homeless guys walk... they basically have propane tanks strapped to their backs and walk around with torches for the night parades. some dance, some sing, some just walk. but they get to keep whatever people give them... i call it creative begging
