I've been trying Craigslist and most of everyone's old couches and stuff are ugly. Is there a rent-a-center or something that sells their used furniture or something of the sort?

I've always found that Big Lots can have decent furniture on the cheap...if you're looking new.

How soon you looking to buy? I'm with drunkn, If you wait till May, you can find all sorts of stuff on TWW. If you are looking for now and supercheap, hunt around the GoodWills. Second year in dorms, I think we got a couch for $10, coffee table for $10, and paid $40 for carpet at Lowes. Quality of the stuff varies and you'll have to be patient if you go this route, cuz most of it is crap.

There are several Rent-A-Centers in the Raleigh area, but most are on the eastern side and they'll let you rent-to-own. I'm pretty sure they ship though. They were offering some great prices a couple years ago.

Rent a Centers and the others like them suck.

If you can do math you will know why. Rent to own furniture is never worth it.

Can't really get couches, but there are plenty of unfinished furniture places in Raleigh, if you are even slightly skilled you can get some pretty nice stuff for cheap.

Aarons Furniture has a warehouse with used rental furniture off 440 between Capital and New Bern. Most of the stuff looks as good as new, but really good deals can be had if you take something with a flaw. They have multiples of the same thing too so if you get a couch you could probably go back a month later and get a matching chair. I paid $100 for a couch and $20 for a coffee table there.
