Is it possible to get them to lower the security deposits and how do they know if you are a student or not? The student price is like 100 dollars a month lower and the person I am living with is not a student, so they would only give us half the student discount. Also, if you have a pet, did you need to pay for it? We may have a cat, but I don't know if its worth it to pay a lot to make her "legal"

it's 10 bucks extra per month for a pet i think.

and you prove you are a student by bringing them a copy of your tuition bill or something like that.

i have a friend living there who has a pet but never claimed him, so he doesn't pay extra. you could say you're the only one living there, but then it wouldn't put your roommate's name on the lease....

yeah the person i live with has only claimed his cat at one of the 4 apartments he's lived at in raleigh. i think its dumb to pay for a spayed, declawed cat that doesn't do any harm to anything. i know its very different, but if i owned apartments, i would want to charge for kids under 10 who spill everything, not a cat who just lays on the bed and eats. i'm aware its all about making money, if they are worried about damages pets make, that is what the deposit is for, the pet rent is just ridiculous. /rant

but! I guess the question about pets is are they anal about it, as in do they check, etc?

^The reason they're like that about the pets is that they can't charge someone with a dog or a cat and not charge someone with a declawed, spayed, or litterbox trained cat. What they do for/to one, they have to do the same for the rest. Which really sucks and isn't all that fair...

Cats pee, shit, and puke all the fucking time. They will forego the litter box for a multitude of reasons. I can think of two people off the top of my head who have had to replace carpets, padding, and (in one case) the floorboards of a room because a cat fucked it all up.

They are pretty nasty animals in my opinion.

If you OWNED the property you would understand.

Maybe other peoples cats, but our cat hasn't not used the litterbox or puked anywhere since she was spayed
