I'm gonna try this tomorrow on something, some piece of scrap. You need to get you an old fender to practice on. Remember to thin the paint very well...and I would use regular mineral spirits (stoddard solvent); the drying rate is pretty slow, which will help with the leveling of the finish.

I thought I used plenty of mineral spirits, it was pretty thin, but it came out pretty bumpy looking. When I try again later on the other side, I'll thin it more.

yeah, I used rustoleum royal red. gorgeous color, somewhere between a light cranberry and the blood red BMW used to put on the M roadster, but I definitely needed more mineral spirits, and I also want to see how much sanding it can help. I didn't get a chance to try that before I skipped town. I thought I poured a lot of mineral spirits in, but come to think of it, it probably wasn't anywhere near 50%. It definitely did lay down more evenly from the bumpy first appearance a ton after a night's drying, and everything I used is in raleigh right now, so I probably won't take another crack at it for another week at least (I'm working in VA), but it definitely needed more mineral spirits, it was still too bumpy by far...

^maybe this was a mistake, but I just used mineral spirits on a paper towel to clean up the enamel... I didn't really pay attention to whether I messed up the garage floor or not... guess I'll know when I get home...
