So Jack White started a band, because, I don't know, he does what he wants. They're called The Raconteurs. They've got an, uh, interesting web site, http://www.theraconteurs.com/. I'm digging the sample songs. Anybody got any more info?

p.s. raconteur: noun. One who tells stories and anecdotes with skill and wit

So if I like this cd... should I give the White Stripes a chance? Or is their sound completely different?

The White Stripes are the bomb diggity. yeah I'll prolly catch heat for that, but dammit they know how to make good music with what they've got.

i really like that Jack White picked up an actual band.

the song "Level" is one of my favorites on the album. the guitar riff in the middle of the song is sick...wish it were longer.

ps why did i download this shit...

you can assume the highly disappointed look on my face when this is playing after long since coming off of a White Stripes stint of about 2 months after which I realized that the music and the subculture associated with it is one in the same pile of suck. The WHITES or whatever the fuck play like three chords for every song. You can sit here and make one big fucking medley out of everything they've ever "written," yet there are still kids like you who pay homage to these idiots. I'm not trolling when I'm sitting here writing this to say that I seriously cannot understand yours or anybody else's appeal to this stuff.

PS Coffee and Cigarettes was the biggest piece of shit I wasted my time on in the last week. I was wary about it from the get-go, but this auteurism shit with people like Jarmusch is lame...

I'd forgotten about this thread, but it reminds me of the olden days when there were two songs by The Raconteurs and they seemed really promising. This, as opposed to now, when the whole album is out and it really, really sucks.

^^^ The White Stripes' catalog is far more varied than that of Chuck Berry or the Ramones, who write FANTASTIC three chord songs that are all the same and are worshipped for it. There are great Stripes songs and not-so-great Stripes songs, but the idea that they're all three chord wonders is comical.

I saw them live on friday at the Norva and they were simply amazing. waaaaaay better than on the album. pics coming soon.

the supporting band was pretty freakin good but the raconteurs made them look like shit.

They played a cover of Bang Bang(my baby shot me down) which was quite frankly epic. I don't care if that word doesn't make sense with the sentence. it was epic, riveting, whatever.

maybe the small venue that is the Norva helped their cause for me. capacity there is like 1500, they seemed to have pretty killer stage presence and everything

I dig that Steady As She Goes song and the video is pretty good. But that's the only song by them I've heard and I was never really into White Stripes/Jack White before. But I may give them a listen to see whats up.

yeah, steady as she goes was great, they absolutely rocked the hell out of the chorus.

and they seemed to improvise solos on pretty much every song so nothing sounded exactly like the album

I missed Consolers of the Lonely earlier this year, but caught Rich Kid Blues cover on Pandora. Am I the only one feeling this album?

I liked the first album, didn't listen to the 2nd album a whole hell of a lot, but "Steady as She Goes" rips off Joe Jackson's "Is She Really Going out With Him" to no end.

I have no idea how the hell they got away with that one.

saw them at the roseland when broken boy soldiers came out and then at terminal 5 when consolers of the lonely came out. both shows fucking rocked. i love both albums and they are amazing live.

these stones will shout is probably my fav off of consolers. i used to like the first album more, but i find that i listen to consolers much more often.
